In the long run no - but there are still plenty of naysayers anyway...

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1.019bn (#4)
With just the leftover domestic box office still to go, I see Avatar at $1.3 billion. But with the leftover overseas box office, I see $1.6 billion right now. Sweeping the Oscars could be enough to get it close enough to Titanic though!

I believe that 49% drop in UK is a mistake, shouldn't it be an increase?
And still no Japan numbers, strange...

And still no Japan numbers, strange... News, entertainment news at least, has been incredible slow for the past week. Eiga didn't even have a new article for anything between Dec. 28-Jan. 3rd. Even Yahoojp had very little news for anything during that time. Since it's a holiday, I suppose. Weekly anime/manga releases, music sales, etc. haven't been released either.

It's already all-time #1 in Russia with 55 million USD and still can make at least 20-25 million with whole week of holidays ahead.

A 30% premium over regular ticket prices. To movie prices in Germany fluctuate weekly or something according to the movie? In Australia, subject to inflation and the odd rise or two a year, it's pretty much the same accross the board regardless of movie (though some cinema chains are slightly more expensive than others, i.e. the mass cinemas vs. the small cinemas vs. the niche arthouse cinemas)>

Yeah, i'm most interested in the Japan numbers, it should have a huge gross after 2 weekends seeing as last week was holidays. And the UK is definately wrong, it was just above $6m last weekend, and is above $9m this weekend, so definately an increase. The gross has also improved dramatically from the 30s to now 50s.

Lord over all others. It has made more than double Transformers 2 at this point.
INTERNATIONAL - Weekend 3

Archangel though your analysis looks pretty damn good but I heard from someone else in this thread that Dead Man's Chest took 63 days to cross 1B while ROTK took 67. Titanic made it in 73 days.
Avatar is all that matters right!!

Avatar is all that matters right!! Avatar is so far ahead that it makes the list almost redundant from here. Though I guess i should still continue to track th is because sooner or latter the gap is going to be filled very quickly the way the international markets is growing.

The BBC has mentioned that Avatar has broken past $1B like twelve times in 2 hrs now. Never saw something like this.

Avatar has become the fastest movie ever to achieve $1bn (£625.6m) in ticket sales around the world.
Distributors 20th Century Fox say it has earned more than $350m (£217m) in the US and more than $670m (£415m) in the rest of the world in only 17 days.
The 3D science fiction blockbuster was directed by James Cameron, who also made Titanic, the best selling movie of all time.
The latest figures make Avatar already the fourth-biggest film ever made.
Ahead of it are Titanic ($1.8bn; £1.1bn), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.12bn; £695m) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.07bn; £664m).
Avatar - about a disabled marine who infiltrates a race of giant blue aliens - combines live action with digitally-enhanced performances.
It was reportedly the most expensive film ever made, with a budget of at least $300m (£186m).
Expensive tickets
"This is like a freight train out of control," said 20th Century Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston. "It just keeps on going.
"I think everybody has to see Avatar once, even people who don't normally go to the movies, they've heard about it and are saying, 'I have to see it'," he said.
"Then there are those people seeing it multiple times."
Avatar has now reached most parts of the globe. It opened in China on Saturday and is due to reach Italy - its final market - on 15 January.
The huge box office takings are partly down to the higher cost of tickets for 3D performances, says the BBC's Peter Bowes in Los Angeles.
But as Hollywood enters its traditional slow season, with few big films due for release, Avatar is likely to dominate the box office for several more weeks, he adds. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8438824.stm

It's being announced everywhere. It's the only news I can find regarding the past weekend.
