Should jump past 750 million next weekend. $1B. We're up to $1B. It's passing $1,000,000,000.

I'm assuming ticket prices are far too high for most people in China to afford going to the movies on a frequent basis, right? Or is that just true in the big cities? Yeah, the tickets are still too expensive. The cost is in fact similar to U.S, so 40-70 yuan for a regular adult ticket, 100 yuan for 3D, and 130-150 yuan for IMAX, but China's per capital is not on the same planet yet. Just to think when the market could grow to 50m admissions for a blockbuster film, still 40 yuan per ticket, and the exchange rate appreciates to 4 yuan vs. 1 dollar (as yuan still has a lot more room to appreciate vs. dollar comparing to others, once the government decides to loosen the control), we will be looking at $500m.

Hmm, the weekend was "only" $133m. Midweekdays might have been underestimated. Quote: The film added $133 million overseas to lift its international haul to $670 million source

The fastest prior to Avatar took over 2 months, and Avatar did it in 17 days. That just blows my mind. That's a huge trampling of the record. Peace, Mike

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $809.1m Worldwide (#23)
amazing thing is that it still has 2 big markets china and italy. if they break out like other major markets, we could be looking at 100m from just those 2. holdovers should make another 300-400m worth of business. it should come close to titanic os.

Yeah, I dunno if everyone realizes how unprecedented the rate of accumulation for its OS gross really is.

And again, it's at $525m overseas as of wednesday. Thursdays count towards the weekends since many markets report a 4-day weekend as opposed to 3-day like in North America. Last weekend it did $152m (including thursday). actually, someone posted the breakdown last weekend, and something like only 10-12 markets include thursday in their weekends. It wasn't a large percentage at alll. From previous post I've done, weekend intl is a mix of days from 2-5, it depends how local markets report (ie 7 countries report 5 days, 3 report 2 days , rest 3/4days few more report 4 then 3), also the screen count is a mix of prints/screens theatres. So when any intl weeked results come it will include for eg 5 days from France, 4 Days from Germany, 3 Days from UK, 2 days from Japan. From above about 10-12 markets reporting 4 days with Avatar, it actually 30 do and about the same for 4 days.
