It is just that these movies are the ones we are connected sentimentally and the day will soon come when we will be connected to Avatar as well.
The biggest point "Records are meant to be broken" Though hopefully not by underserving films.

So you're predicting Avatar to take down the record in China, too early to say for me but definately Top 5 easily.

Uptil now everything was good and Avatar was great but now when the time came when it is actually breaking records everyone is like thrashing it out like this was a B Grade movie. Maybe you guys need to go once more for the IMAX experience

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $809.1m Worldwide (#23)
http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/new-y ... -domestic/SATURDAY PM/SUNDAY AM UPDATE: My sources say early numbers show Avatar's projected North American cume, after only 17 days in release from 20th Century Fox, will be $350.5 million. And its worldwide box office figure should be $1.05 billion coming out of this weekend

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $809.1m Worldwide (#23)
I highly doubt that $1.05 billion is accurate because the movie would have to gross $175m in its 3rd weekend overseas for that to happen, which would be more than what it made on its 1st and 2nd weekend.

If it paces that way I think so it is likely that it will gross that figure. Looking at the numbers the difference between 1st and 2nd week were not that different. I guess it can increase considering that this was after Christmas week where the movies make the highest

Titanic's narrative was as simple as Avatar's. And I'm not saying this as a negative thing. It's just they both had a rather simple stories.

Unlikely. Well then here it is again my math and calculations that I have been putting on quite often now First this article http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/avata ... k-of-2009/Wednesday WW is 794M now Let us be as modest as possible Domestic Estimates (Modest) Thursday - 14.9M Weekend - 65.1M Domestic Total = 80M (could be up 1-3M) Foreign Estimates (Modest) Thursday - 28M (i.e. 25% drop considering NYE) Weekend - 100M (Friday-Sunday 30M that is current week's lowest WW) Foreign Total - 128M (could be up 1-20M) Just add 794 + 80 + 128 = 1002M With all the numbers it seems that this number could be up by 1-23M. Overseas total are growing this week as per this thread as well. I am predicting a total of 178M for the week and 100M for the weekend here with a potential to grow 20M more.

Unlikely. 525M was till Wednesday and there is this Thursday which can rake it 28-30M WW. Well with the estimate of 347M domestic by the end of this weekend I think 653M WW will also do. According to that it needs only 128M which seems achievable given 4 days and each day this week it has grossed 30M WW

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $809.1m Worldwide (#23)
What? Domestic will be around $350m so it needs $700m ovearseas for it to hit $1.05b.
And again, it's at $525m overseas as of wednesday. Thursdays count towards the weekends since many markets report a 4-day weekend as opposed to 3-day like in North America. Last weekend it did $152m (including thursday).

We'll have a clearer picture in a few hours. And I can't wait, the news sites I go to have been so slow since New Years.

It wasn't a large percentage at alll.
