some people at BOM are calling for in the realm of 950m

900M+ WW in 17 days is just fucking insane. Sparta is not insane or mad enough to compare it to Avatar :P

Well, if AVATAR adds the same $375m (which is possible thanks to bigger days in Europe and the USA), it will be at $1b by Sunday...

I so hope that happens, it would be crazy amazing.

Just a small update from Poland. I'm looking at cinema sites and get some info from a friend that works at one of cinema chains and Avatar is doing Shrek 3 type business during weekdays. It's looking at 350k adm during weekdays and I'm predicting 400k+ adm for the weekend. If I'm right then it's going to be at 1,05-1,1M adm. in 10 days :)

See, that's what I'm talking about...
Weekdays are up in Germany too, GB will be up, so: $1b by Sunday - why not?

And Japan weekdays in general are pretty big, aren't they?

It's definitely not impossible...

I have been at my local theatre yesterday...Avatar was playing on three screens and each was almost sold out (between 1-20 tickets left per screen).

Exactly, it hardly has any competition fighting for 3D screens anytime soon.

Last three days have been the 3 biggest todate for Avatar, Monday result was a record for Monday take.
Record biggest 2nd weekend, least amount time to reach 30mil.
Tuesday destined to be another huge day, will probably top the previous tuesday which was a record tuesday.

So it made $3.6m, not as high as the $6m you're predicting but still massive and a record as well. It's back to work now on Tuesday and Wednesday....and will surely take a hit on NY eve. Should be easily above AUD$42m by next Monday.

Still no official weekend numbers from the Netherlands... As long as the Dutch Federation of Cinema (http://www.nfcstatistiek.nl, http://www.nfcstatistiek.nl/top20weekend.pdf for the weekend chart) doesn't update, I'm skeptical. I'd like to believe it actually did increase over 50% this weekend, but it's just... SO much!

I really wish I had another reliable source for the local Box Office. ¬_¬

Thanks so much, that's the site i've been trying to re-find all these months. You're an angel :wub2:

Why India is a dissapointment is beyond me, $11m+ is not shabby, Top 3 for a foreign release.

Then he is spot on, I take it back - though he meant 3.5 to 6m, 6m would break all single day records. LOL

Post Re: Avatar (INTL.)
I finally contributed my 12 euro's to Avatar's Dutch/International gross (damn you, 3D prices...), and it was worth every single Euro. That was easily the most immersive, epic, engaging cinematic experience I've ever had, I'm not even kidding. The world Cameron created was breathtaking, and the story and characters helped draw me in completely. I spent the second half of the film near tears because everything just... clicked for me. Yes, I'm an idiot who gets emotional easily. :P

Good thing no one could see because of those glasses. :funny:

Box Office, right! I expect Avatar to add a LOT of Euro's (relatively speaking, since we're not a big market) over this week in Holland. I was here on a Tuesday evening and the 8:30 PM showing I attended with my friends was completely sold out.

Before the film started, some guy from the theatre spoke to the audience, talking about how glad he was we were there to see Avatar on Holland's newest and best 3D screen (showing just how important a film Avatar is to theatres... THIS is the type of film that will fill your seats). He also said that Avatar had been selling out all day, pretty impressive since that screen alone offers seats to somewhere between 600 and 900 people (not sure how many rows there are in there >.>). ON A TUESDAY. Yes, it's kind of the holidays, but a lot of people (like me) are still working. MASSIVE INCREASE INCOMING! It this doesn't beat Harry Potter to become the biggest release of '09, I'll be surprised.

The guy also tried to pitch Sherlock Holmes, by saying it had dethroned Avatar in the United States, showing that even Avatar isn't invincible. I was in the back of the theatre while he was in the front, or I'd have yelled something profane at him. "OPENING DAY, FUCKER! 2 PERCENT DIP OMG!" I mean, I know you've got like, an exclusive screening of Holmes next week, but please get your facts straight.

Oh dear, you go get'em tiger :P BTW - perhaps this would've been better in the reviews thread?

Anyway, i'm expecting increases in Netherlands, that market normally registers excellent holds for movies, even slightly bad ones.

Yeah, Lovely Bones is not registering anywhere - it's definately a flop considering the budget, big name director and cast. I thought this was going to be a one-two punch for PJ after the success of District 9 but it wasn't to be.

Oh well, better luck next time with Tin Tin, which i'm hoping will be doing better than Sherlocke Holmes numbers. Needs a strong cast which resonates in the US i think as well. Sherlock has Robert Downey Jr who is so hot right now. The new Johnny Depp.

Lonely bones here opened around 30 prints it had large avg, it goes wide Jan1&7 to around 230

Also from above for Avatar Monday I meant 3.5-6 (3.5 to 3.6mil not 6mil :) )
It'll hit 40mil if not Thursday then by Friday Jan1 (Which will be a record for least time to 40mil by a country mile). Tuesday was a record Tuesday beating its previous week1 Tuesday (Record Tuesdays #1 Avatar wk2, #2 Avatar wk1, #3 Narnia)

It'll do $50m now for sure, the only question is whether it can take down Titanic's $57m?
