new moon hit a new level beyond massive, gargantuanly frontloaded would be more fitting.

ROTK dropped pretty hard from it's 3rd weekend in the States naturally, Avatar will do better given the higher ticket prices, slightly lower running time and the novelty factor of 3D.

Well if it wasn't for IA3 in July then there wouldn't have been a rapid increase in 3D screens overseas....

Definately, Ice Age 3 and Avatar are literally opening the floodgates for 3D........just liike IMAX, expect opening records to fall and grossers becoming higher comparatively. Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4 are going to be perfect barometers of this.

They need to still perfect 3D for faster moving images, when that happens, expect all uber blockbusters to start coming in 3D>

Avatar will drop in it's 3rd weekend around 40% i'm guessing....but this movie continues to post bigger grossers and better drops so who knows. $400m is a lock, $500m is a high possibility....

It would be outrageous if this can be The Dark Knight domestically....last year, i thought that no movie will beat TDK until perhaps the next TDK...LOL :hahaha:

It probably will but it's still going to slow down considerably, unfortunately, with people going back to school or work. :tears:

I think this weekend will play just as better....and don't forget Italy has still yet to open, add another $9m opening for that and $30m+ gross in the end for that country.

Madness. :hahaha:

China and Argentina as well :hahaha:

Hell fuck, through in $50m+ for China and $10m+ in ARgentina. '

Mark's prediction might not be too far off......this movie is madness

I updated the countries left for avatar to release. Apparently it has yet to be released in Georgia.

I don't have grossers in Georgia so can't give an example of a blockbuster opening....though i'm thinking it'll be more like in 100ks then 1million.

With January 1st falling on friday hence inflating the weekend it might drop less than that.

Oh, I thought you asked what the 2-D gross was.

The weekend gross should be around 6 or 7m. It was actually pretty frontloaded. This Is It opened to $1.1m on Wednesday and made $10m over the 5-days (5.8m 2-day), and Harry Potter 6 opened to $3.6m on Wednesday and made $18m over the 5-day (10.5m 2-day).
