And don't forget Frog is likely to have the biggest Saturday jump. A Bug's Life increased 109% and had an IM of 4.9, so Frog could still see a $10m weekend.

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
The problem with Princess And The Frog wasn't that it was 2D.
If you would release a 3D movie which sells itself as having frogs and crocodiles singing and dancing for 90 minutes, it wouldn't become a hit either. Audiences simply aren't that interested in watching frogs and crocodiles sing and dance.

Audiences simply aren't that interested in watching frogs and crocodiles sing and dance. Tell that to all the DW and Disney pictures that have been released in 3-D. None of them have bombed. The only ones that ever fail to make a dent are those released by independent studios like Lions Gate. 2-D is dead

Holy crap on everything. This proves that if there's a big appealling movie, it's not going to suffer going against another gargantuan. Such a massive weekend, even It's Complicated found its audience!!

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
You know Alvin may end up being pretty massive today. An 80% increase on Christmas for a kids film is rather impressive.

If Avatar does increase, it'll capture the biggest OW record for December... in its 2nd weekend.

Yeah, looks like that could kill its chances at $300m. maybe even a sub two multiplier, its already surpassed drek2 as the worst film to cross 200m, perhaps people will get it right this time and now allow this tripe to top 300m

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
Incredible for Avatar. It's strong legs are very apparent now. It will make likely at least $75 million this weekend, with the potential to garner the #1 largest second weekend gross (topping The Dark Knight), and also the potential to increase from it's first weekend of $77 million if it has a strong internal multiplier and makes closer to $80 million. At the very least, Avatar is holding really well from it's 1st weekend with a really minute drop. Additionally, Sherlock Holmes' weekend looks to be really great as well. A fantastic opening day. I'm really impressed by the box office on the whole - really, really strong numbers! Peace, Mike
