 Re: Avatar (INTL.)
Someone at BOM said that the opening day in Japan may be around $4.4m, which seems really good to me?

I can read japanese so I checked this website... According to eiga (which means movies in japanese), estimate puts 400million yen for Avatar, roughly 4.4 or 4.5 million dollars for opening day... I think they are exaggerating but they said it could hit 100m (about 10billion yen) if done right someone posted that on BOM If it indeed did 4-4.5M on opening day then

Well, it's definately huge. ROTK went on to gross $14.7m for the weekend which is inside the Top 20 largest openings in US$.
The current record holder is Spiderman 3 at $26.6m. This year's largest is Harry Potter 6 at $17.7m.

Went to a French b.o. forum and they expect now at least 8m admissions in France, which would make it No. 1 of 2009 over there...

 Re: Avatar (INTL.)
Avatar has a perfect storm situation because although Christmas is for the Western world, everyone has holidays for the last 2 weeks of December, or at least take holidays/leave so it's really got a fantastic release date.
In fact, that's the best OS release date, period.

 Re: Avatar (INTL.)
Avatar opened well in Japan as big as the Lotr films and bigger than anything this year...
According to posters on BOM, Avatar opened to 4-4.5 million on its opening day.
You can put down another market heading to 100 million...
What about the UK???

Well, it's definately huge. ROTK went on to gross $14.7m for the weekend which is inside the Top 20 largest openings in US$.
The current record holder is Spiderman 3 at $26.6m. This year's largest is Harry Potter 6 at $17.7m. 4.4m OD is good, but, it opened on the Emperor's Birthday so the number is inflated, so keep that in mind for the 5-day total.
