It would make it the first WW champ to not be either the DOM champ or OS champ since Two Towers back in 2002 (SM1 was DOM champ, HP2 was OS champ). Even if Avatar doesn't make it (it will) we'd still have the same situation. Potter is currently #1 WW but it's neither #1 OS nor domestically.

If Avatar doesn't win the OS or DOM crown...it'd be the first time ever (or at least since 1989 since that's how far back BOM goes) where we don't have the DOM or OS champ in the top 2 WW. You know what I'm thinking of when I look at that? Imagine if the Ice Age franchise was actually huge in the US...like Shrek-huge. It'd be a $1+ billion grosser. Wow...

I see a 650 million finish considering it opened higher than 2012 and has Holidays and WOM on its side. lol, with awards season coming up, and avatar moving into front runner contention with = reviews to the dark knight, I say the film makes a minimum of 750m int. Yeah these grosses are awesome so $750m is not out of the question.

My current prediction is:
Domestic: $385m Overseas: $730m
Worldwide = $1.115m (#2 Worldwide).
I hate to see ROTK loose, but it's looking likely now.

I hate to see ROTK loose, but it's looking likely now. Then James Cameron would have the two biggest movies in the world. I know it's happened at least once before (Spielberg had Jurassic Park and ET at #1 & #2 from 1993-94) but that'd still be pretty cool.

Anyone predicting less than $950m WW for this one really needs to have a long hard look at themselves.

I'll be seeing Avatar tomorrow, let's see how good this movie is. If wonder if this will turn out to be the fastest grosser after weekends 2 and 3 worldwide.

 Re: Avatar (INTL.)
Pirates 3 is it's target for most of them I think.
5 or 6 day total - 404m 11 day total - 626m 22 day total - 767m
I believe these are right, but correct them if they aren't. So I'm assuming it has the record for fasted to 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700. 800 and 900, not sure.

Corpse wrote: Any idea how many days it took Pirates 3 to hit 300m? I just checked, and after 11 days it was at $408.8m. Not sure about $500m, it was at $493.5m after 18 days though, so $500 in either 19 or 20 I suppose. If it was at 408 after 11 days, it took longer than 5 days to hit 300 million, so Avatar wins. I wonder if anything has managed to hit 300 million WW in 5 days? Dark Knight definatley didn't because it wasn't as stong overseas as it was domestically. Pirates 3 didn't do it.... has anything?

 Re: Avatar (INTL.)
Sure? I edited that post btw, those were only OS numbers.
It's first 5 or 6 day total was 404m ww (153m DOM, 251m OS). I'd assume it had the 300m too, as well as the next few hundred million.

Gotcha, well then it certainly won't beat Pirates' record to 300, 400 or 500 million. In fact, it probably can't beat any of it's numbers when it comes to quickness, but I expect that it will outgross Pirates 3 WW. But damn, those P3 numbers are pretty damn impressive! It made it's money fast!!

 Re: Avatar (INTL.)
Yeah, 1b seemed locked up until it fell apart in the states. Poor release date (too much competition + memorial day weekend which always leads to weakened legs, and the long running time didn't help). I think WOM was decent because DVD sales were still huge, which the other Big 3 didn't have, and grades and such weren't too much below P2's. Plus it did beat Pirates 2 overseas.

Advance booking for 3 Idiots is huge in India and bigger than Ghajini had last year!!! Shows in south India where Avatar did very well is selling out like crazy and other cities too are 50-60% booked. I am not too sure about Avatar sustaining in 2nd weekend in India now.
