If there were 5 nominees in the BP Oscar race this year I'd say great for Up to get a spot among five BP here. But it's definitely getting in this year, so... Otherwise I can't see I'm pleasantly or otherwise surprised about any of these picks.

Bad bad showing for Nine. Not a single acting nom (except Ensemble).

Very strong for The Hurt Locker! Best Picture/Actor/Supporting Actor/Director/Ensemble/Screenplay/Breakthrough noms. WOW!

Best Ensemble for Star Trek?! AWESOME!

Eight noms for Up in the Air...very strong too. I'm starting to firmly believe that Up in the Air will be the movie with two Best Supporting Actress nominations and not Nine.

Best Adapted Screenplay for THE BLIND SIDE? :funny: What a joke. I have come to really despise that movie :P.

Good for THE YOUNG VICTORIA for its Art Direction nomination :P. It's something at least. I'd rather have seen Emily Blunt for Actress though.

Great for Bigelow. I still have some hope that she'll somehow manage to win at the Oscars.

Completely agree. Would love to see her take home the oscar.

Happy to see Waltz picked up supporting and Inglourious for original screenplay.

I actually think that the Washington critics will be close to the oscar wins, at least in these categories;

Best Actor
George Clooney, Up in the Air

Best Actress
Carey Mulligan, An Education

Best Supporting Actor
Christoph Waltz | Inglourious Basterds

Best Supporting Actress
Mo’Nique | Precious

Best Director
Kathryn Bigelow | The Hurt Locker

Best Screenplay, Adapted
Up in the Air | Paramount

Best Screenplay, Original
Inglourious Basterds | Weinstein Company

Best Film
Up in the Air | Paramount

A female director is long overdue and as their are no major front runners or standouts this year, I think Bigelow has a great shot.
