Awesome, the awards season has begun! (as meaningless as these noms are).

What I noticed so far:

- They either hated Invictus or haven't seen it.

- Heigl as Best Actress for The Ugly Truth?! Weird but I'm not too opposed, hehe.

- Depp for Public Enemies? Meh

- No nomination for Gabby Sidibe!

- Of all the actors in The Last Station they nominated James McAvoy!

- They really liked The Stoning of Soraya M., eh?

- Not much love for Inglourious Basterds but District 9 gets a Screenplay and a Director nom.

- Not a single nom for Star Trek? Even Terminator and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen got noms. Not even a freaking effects nom?!!

- They haven't seen Avatar or The Lovely Bones

This signals Bright Star is alive. I could see GG going big for it as well.

They really liked Emily Blunt, but don't think that will translate to much going forward.

Love the Bright Star love. Such a beautiful, superbly acted film. Very deserving of recognition.

Also, yay for Carey Mulligan. :D Though obviously she'll be nominated for every Best Actress prize there is this season; still, I'm excited for her.

Boo to no-love for The Road. :( C'mon, give Viggo a Best Actor nomination! It's a better performance than Renner's in The Hurt Locker or Depp's in Public Enemies--not saying those were bad (at all), but Viggo was superior. Sheen being nominated for his splendid turn in The Damned United is a nice Best Actor surprise, though.

Did you actually like The Road Gun? Because I was told you didn't, but you keep chearing it on so you must have.

Anyway, some very nice nominations, aside from a couple odd choices (Katherine Heigl for The Ugly Truth - I mean, she did fine and all for that kind of movie, but she's not worthy of a nomination for her performance anywhere except maybe the MTV Movie Awards). Still, I'm mostly pleased. I love the Emily Blunt nominations. She's a great actress and was wonderful in Sunshine Cleaning. She looks very good in The Young Victoria. I would love to see her get an Oscar nomination for Victoria. She certainly has a shot.

Also pleased to see Zooey get a nomination for (500) Days of Summer, and James McAvoy for The Last Station.
