So if someone loves this movie and finds it scary they're a studio plant? Paramount must be paying a ton of people, including Roger Ebert, Entertainment Weekly, and all of the other critics who have loved it. It couldn't possibly be that the movie actually is good and scary.

I'm seeing it Friday night and can't wait. I think I'll love it. But if I do it's only because Paramount paid me ;).

I just purchased my tickets for this at RONNIES 20 CINE for saturday night Oct 17th at 11:45 PM.. There were several showtimes throughout the day, but as people who have seen this have stated: It's better served watching this latenight and with a crowd and I'm sure that late at night, there will be a crowd where I'll be surrounded by a bunch of screaming teens.................................Or laughing and heckling teens, whichever.. Either way, this better be good for me going out of my way to stay awake and see this and if it isn't, you can sure bet I'll tear the hell out of it...

Yeah, take it out on the movie that you decided to stay up late and go to a late show ;)... It's not like you won't hate this anyway. I could never in a million years imagine you liking it.

Movie itself is techinically just alright. Not a huge fan of such low-budget at all although the acting was not bad at all. And it's not THAt scary. But the ideas and thoughts it leaves you with, THAT is some frightening shit. B+

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY

I decided to watch this in the early afternoon today because I didn't want to deal with screaming teen girls at every little noise or creak. I'm sure that kind of ruins the experience a bit but oh well. I can't take that type of crowd anymore.

I liked the relationship of the actors. The female reminded me of my sister/law in her tone and voice. I liked how the story slowly built up as the film went along. The creepiness of the activities at night get more expressive which left my heart pounding at moments. The enhanced sound everytime the spirit entered was done very well. It really set the mood.

I did not like how the male was just enabling everything to continually get worse and at times even after there was clear evidence of something very wrong in the early goings he seemed to be oblivious or didn't believe what he was seeing.

Lastly, I should say "Shame on the trailers" and I'll leave it at that. I also think it ends quite abruptly. It didn't help that there were no credits so the very small audience I was with wasn't sure whether to get up and go or not.

One more thing, if ever a film helps to reinforce the idea of to never use a Ouija board. Also, I was always under the impression that a ouija board is only active when you "allow" the spirit to enter the conversation and not that it happening randomly.

grade - B

I saw it at 12:40AM with a nearly sold out crowd and it was incredibly scary. The first hour or so wasn't "terrifying," though incredibly creepy. The last half hour though... I'm incredibly shaken and I honestly don't think I will be sleeping tonight.

9/10 (A)

one of the most effective horror movies i've ever seen -- it kept me on the edge my seat the entire time, made me jump/scream when it wanted me to, and now as i sit here alone in my house at 1:30, i'm as freaked out as i was in the theater.

You folks are pussies.. There's no way this movie is THAT scary.. There's a part of me that's dreading seeing this thing at Midnight saturday cause of all the cell phoes, all the teen screaming even when there's probably no reason to scream..

Maybe. Don't know if I'll bother. People thought Open Water was scary too. It was awful.

DEVIN from CHUD makes a very good case for releasing this movie on DVD on October 30th of this month instead of the standard practice of waiting 4 months to hit home on DVD.. He does make a good point and saves me the trouble of sitting around a bunch of screaming teens in a level of patience on my part that'll be staggering..

The problem is that people like BKB (and I guess Joe) are going to go into this film set on it not being scary, instead of just sitting back and potentially getting scared. The kid behind me in the theater said for half the film that the movie "sucked" and "wasn't scary at all," and lost his shit near the end. People try to be hard asses in the theater, constantly making comments about how it's not scary to people. It's not that serious. Trust me, BKB - no teenager in the audience will be impressed.

I'm not easily scared at all and I thought the last 15 minutes was one of the scariest parts of maybe any horror movie.

And yeah, the first half of this film is not scary. But it's tense. It slowly, but effectively, builds up to something great. You spend the first half growing to the characters (who are real and funny) and watching some really freaky stuff happen, then shit hits the fan at the end.

What's scary about it? Sheets rustling on the bed (That's their "scary" moment in the trailer)? I'm shaking in my proverbial boots. That's the stuff of stupid Sam Raimi-produced teenybopper horror for the horror newbies. I've seen thousands of horror movies. That stuff stopped being effective eons ago, if it ever was.

That's one of the least scary scenes in the entire film.
