Post WAR OF THE WORLDS - Where Do Spielberg's Aliens Come From?
Just catched this on AICN a few minutes ago:

Heya Harry.

I just got home from Wondercon and thought I might share what may or may not be a spoiler regarding War of the Worlds. On the panel were a couple of of artists including Doug Chiang and some other guy.

In the discussion of the aliens they were both quite tight lipped but the second man said at one point that this was a full on invasion picture and that we were being watched from a parallel dimension. Now with that nugget and the trailer saying they are alreday here it makes me think that the aliens are coming from another version of earth.

Who knows?

What do you thing about this change? I for one don't really care about where they are coming from or whether it's true to the original story as long as it is good, interesting concept, and fits the movie.

In the book they are from Mars arent they????????

This movie becomes more and more an ID4 2. Once i really hoped for an adaption of the original HG Wells story but now I think I can definately forget that. "War of the Worlds" will be Spielbergs Version of ID4 nothing else.

Bizzaro Earth, that's way sci-fi.

I don't buy it. Everything I've read about this film seems to point to interstellar travel not interdimensional.

If an advanced, warfare loving civilzation could travel in between parallel dimensions, I doubt they would even bother with Earth.

I like it. Parallel universes is an underused concept in modern sci-fi movies.

I think it's a good move in changing the origin of the aliens from Mars to somewhere else. The concept of aliens from "Mars" was pretty much exhauted with the B movies of the 50's. Back in the 50's we didnt know much about Mars and other planets in our solar system, but things have changed since then. If you were to make the invaders from Mars in this remake it would carry a cheesy quality to it.

That's funny, I said the same thing right before ID4 came out. Except I said the movie is looking more and more like "War of the Worlds"

I don't know where all these comparisons to ID4 are coming from. If anything ID4 is a ripoff of War of the Worlds, and a pretty cheesy one at that. Ive always considered ID4 a corny RIPOFF of WOW.
