A SINGLE MAN could score Colin Firth a Best Actor nomination
Here's a trailer for the film, which doesn't really show what it's about and obviously won't be an official trailer. http://www.arte.tv/de/Videos-auf-ARTE-T ... 44006.htmlThis premiered Friday at the Venice Film Festival, where Colin Firth took home Best Actor. It sounds great and has a terrific cast. As far as I know there's no US distributor yet?

With its two wins, distributors should start bidding. Come on, distributors!
I love the work that the Mad Men design crew did for the film.

Tom Ford winning Best Director would be pretty sweet. He's bad ass.

Weinstein will make sure Colin gets nommed. I just can't wait to see the movie. It sounds relatable, sad and yet sensuous.

I wish NINE were coming out before this because then the trailer would likely be attached to it, which would be great exposure for it.
Maybe one will be attached to THE ROAD. Doubtful, but I can hope.

Re: A SINGLE MAN could score Colin Firth a Best Actor nomination
Erm....what the hell? Why is the marketing so off? It has nothing to do with the story? Not that I read it or anything and I'm not sure if it's a spoiler but he isn't actually in a relationship with the woman so I don't get why they're marketing it this way. I mean, I guess you could say if people knew it was about what it is about they might not want to watch it but then you'd have the mixed/terrible WOM that plagues films that sell a movie differently i.e. Observe and Report, Where the Wild Things Are etc.

Ok, I just saw the latest trailer, and that does indeed seem to be what they're trying to do.
Has anyone seen this trailer show up in front of any movies in theaters lately?

The trailer was shown before The Road.
One woman in the audience laughed at the end and said, "At least we know what it's called!" Referring to the mysterious, plot-less nature of the trailer.

I find that trailer brilliant, actually.

I love it for its unique style, but it doesn't do shit to sell the movie to an audience.

Audiences lap shit like New Moon and The Blind Side up. Fuck 'em.

Re: A SINGLE MAN could score Colin Firth a Best Actor nomination
I like the trailer, but it definitely doesn't do anything to sell it to an audience. The only thing that will get people interested in going to see it outside of the arthouse audience (and even then it won't interest many others) will be the awards buzz. I doubt it makes much more than 5 Million at the Box Office. I'd love to be wrong, but this is too artsy for the mainstream.

Re: A SINGLE MAN could score Colin Firth a Best Actor nomination
They could have cut a slightly more audience-friendly trailer.
I almost wonder if the trailer is so "mysterious" because they don't want Colin Firth-loving adult women to know he's playing a grieving gay man rather than a womanizing fop. lol

What could help this out is the people who might go see it thinking it's A SERIOUS MAN . These titles are so easy to get mixed up.

Re: A SINGLE MAN could score Colin Firth a Best Actor nomination
This actually might receive a Best Picture nomination as well. There's a very good shot. THE LOVELY BONES is out, I believe, opening up another spot. Even with it in this could have also taken one of the 10 spots, but this only helps its chances. Of course, there's a movie that could come along and surprise us yet and get more Oscar attention than expected.
