I think that with the way Scorsese created his film cinematically perfect, he could've done the character more justice than that.
I didn't find it excessive at all, since it really had all been building up to. The whole point of Leo's death was that his character wasn't given justice, he got killed right when everything seemed to be wrapping up perfectly. Why would Scorsese have to give more justice to the other two? And really, what would be doing them more justice then getting their brains blown out in a film like this?

There's a 2 Disc Deluxe Set of this movie out now that has 9 additional scenes added.. I wonder if it makes it any better than what it is right now???

Infernal Affairs was better as an action movie but The Departed was more developed. It's choppy in some parts and the revelation of the existence of moles was bland. Jack was over the top, as usual. The love triangle seemed too contrived. Still, it was one of the best movies of last year. A

I'm watching it on HBO right now for the first time since theaters. It's really good. I'd forgotten that.

 Re: The Departed
The only mob film in recent time to capture the epic feeling you get watching the Godfather and has action scenes are gory and disturbing as Goodfellas and Untouchables.
It was hands down the best film that year and the bast Mob film in over 15 years (since Goodfellas)
I however thought it was trying to be so much all at the same time. The starting was trying to make the picture feel so epic and imo Nicholson was good but could of have been so much better.
With the level of actors and the director I accepted career best performances from everyone.
However a great film and a film that will go down as a classic in few years time.

Still think it's a shame Nicholson wasn't nominated.

 Re: The Departed
that was a random bump.
When I first saw this on dvd shortly after it came out I thought it was a long convoluted ridiculous mess. that was three years ago when I didn't really watch movies. I'll need to watch it again,

 Re: The Departed
I have watched it a couple of times too (thus the bump) and it held up very well on repeat viewings. Still think it's better than the original.

I still love it. The ending doesn't still pack it's original punch... but great none the less.

 Re: The Departed
I really enjoyed The DEPARTED, but definitely DO NOT watch this movie on channels like FX or AMC cause for whatever reason or another, they love butchering it and I think that's bogus considering we pay for this sort of service a month in cable or satelite and there's no reason why this movie should be edited..
