Maybe the couple's reaction to the swimming-pool death of the six-pack guy...?

But let's be honest...will it make the movie better? Hardly.

I mean the first and the second films had the best set-up's so far and the best characters, I'd say. The third had a slight plot as well, IMO and the photographs stuff was stupid, BUT unlike the fourth its deaths were inventive as hell and actually sometimes surprising. In fact, it had some of the best deaths of the franchise.

As of now, the material I can confirm that was cut includes but is not limited to (as not all has been revealed):

- More concerning the connection between films (it's barely mentioned as it is)
- Sex scene between Bobby Campo and Shantal VanSanten (In what world is it ever a good idea to cut a sex scene!?! ;) )
- Some pre-racetrack stuff (apparently, the original cut didn't start with them already watching the race, therefore, it can be inferred that some stuff happens prior)
- Lightpost falling into swimming pool and more during that scene (shown in the TV spots but not in the movie)

I retract my statement.

I prefer the shattered skull image over the cast picture. I wouldn't be surprised though of WB/New Line went with the cast one for the actual cover with the shattered skull image on the spine.

Mike, will you be getting this on DVD?

I'll likely get it anyway (have the other three and I liked it more than most seem to) but definitely will if the deleted/additional scenes are included.

I prefer the other one too but thought I'd post this one anyway.

I actually don't know if I will or not. Maybe someday when it's really cheap. By the time it comes out I hope to have a Blu-ray player so I won't really buy anymore DVD's unless they are for small indie films that didn't get a Blu-ray release. The Blu-ray would have to be really cheap before I'd buy it, and I don't know when Blu-rays will get DVD cheap. Though if it is an extended version and extended by a decent amount I will probably watch it again on DVD.

Many Blu-Rays here are already on DVD-level, some are even cheaper. A few months ago the average price here was around €30 but now you can see them for €20, 15, 10.. and I've even seen one for €7 on Amazon.

Right now, Blu-ray is still way too expensive when you consider the cost of the movies is usally near $30. Until they can be had for $15-20 I won't be getting a player. The quality improvement isn't nearly as big as from VHS to DVD to make it worth it. I'll be getting TFD probably it's first day of release. If they release a 3D version, I won't bother with it as home 3D still sucks.

I still don't see how it can make that much of a difference, but a friend of mine swears that they're amazing. He doesn't like to watch anything but Blu-rays now... I'll just end up buying less movies is all, which isn't a bad thing since then I'll only get ones I need.

Believe me, you will want to watch anything but Blu-Rays either. Are they really still that expensive in the US?

Yep, pretty expensive. You can get 2 DVD for the price of 1 BR.

Where are you shopping? I buy most of my BDs for $12-18. And I'm like the mentioned friend, I can't stand DVDs. Everything looks washed out and soft.

It's so weird that there would be such a huge difference. Do the players at least enhance the look of a DVD a decent amount?

As for buying them, I'll probably end up buying a lot of mine previously viewed from Blockbuster. I don't have a Blockbuster near me, but when I visit my cousins (which is maybe twice a year) I'll go to their Blockbuster and stock up. When I was there this summer they were like $12 each.

Having just recently gotten HDTV... less than a week ago... watching normal tv stations is torture. I'm assuming Blu-ray shows the same disparity, and if so, I need to get one.

I have HD and sporting events are easily the most noticeable in terms of picture quality improvement. It's awesome.

Uh, DVDs are still much cheaper as evidenced by this:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_2_2?u ... sprefix=Fr

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... ies&ks=960

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... d=11051771

Same title. Almost double the cost.

Plus, there's the thing that they crack/break easier than DVDs do, this according to Netflix.

That's total bullshit, actually. Maybe they don't ship well, but the discs are so much more scratch/break-resistant than DVDs are. All of the DVDs you linked to are in the same price range - Friday the 13th Pt. 1 is $15 on DVD, $18 on Blu-ray. The only difference is the Friday remake, and that's only because Amazon has the DVD on sale. The Blu-ray's also the only way you can get both Theatrical and Extended editions on the same disc.

The Friday remake is the only one of interest since it's a new movie and new movies are what most people buy. Best Buy though has a $10 price difference between the DVD and BR, a substantial difference. So it's not just Amazon with a big difference. Until BR costs almost exactly the same, you won't see its marketshare approach that of DVD, especially since the economy sucks and most people don't think it smart to waste money on something not necessary.

It's never going to approach the market-share of DVD, but it's still growing faster than DVD ever did. And forgive me, Joe, but you're coming off as the typical "I don't have Blu-ray so I'm going to pretend it's not worth anything" guy.

Well, you seem oblivious to the economic conditions in which we live that make it not possible for everyone to get a Blu ray player. Plus, you're the one who probably bought a BR right away and thus wasted more money than someone who waits, which seems dumber than waiting in that you're spending more to get the same thing with possible technical inferiorities because of redesigns that have occurred since. While I could easily get one, I have other things I'd rather spend my money on, thank you very much. I'm sure I'll be getting one later this year, much like Mike who I bet has the same reason(s) for not having one yet.

If you bought a Sony player, they're notorious for problems. The original PlayStation model had a major issue with overheating, for instance.

And that's totally cool. But when you throw out (paraphrased) things like "it's not really that much of a leap" and "the discs scratch more than DVDs!", which based on all of my experience with the format isn't remotely true, you really do come off like the guy who just won't move forward with technology out of sheer spite.

Netflix has said that they break easier. I doubt they're lying for no reason.

Sure is a nice excuse to jack up rental rates, ain't it? I've been in the Blu-ray market for over two years. I've never had so much as a scratched disc.
