My little brother, at the ripe age of 18, buys vinyl's all the time. As do his friends.
It's real life.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
I think yoshue is just acting like he didn't love it to try and be hip and go against the crowd. He pretends to hate everything to try and seem intelligent.
Anyway, I can't stop thinking about this movie. I can't wait for it to be released on DVD.

Yeah, I refuse to see this too, esp. after reading about Scott Neustadter's shit with his girlfriend and how this is an answer to her breaking up with him.
How about growing the fuck up, Scott? How about being a man about it?

yoshue wrote: At best, this is a mostly unmemorable thing with a 2 or 3 neat directorial flourishes. It's mostly just irritating. I wished ill upon the leads, the two most unlikable fuckers I've seen in a long time. He's whiny and mopey and self-absorbed; she's twee and pretentious and similarly self-absorbed. She doesn't even get defined; she remains a looney hipster-ideal, and I have no idea why he spent all that time obsessing over her. Or, for that matter, why anyone would give his clingy creep the time of day.
And my lucky lottery number didn't come up! I'd picked 311, but the random-scene-number-generator didn't pick me. Damn.
Goodbye forever, 500 Days of Summer. Hey, the film you're describing sounds like the kind of stuff that would be written by a self-adsorbed fucker about his ex-girlfriend!

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
saw it about 4 or 5 days ago and had to wait this long just to write a review mostly because the way it hit me. This is a film you can relate to and scare the crap out of it. It is truly a fantastic film for almost the entire film. My only problem was that I just couldn't get behind Summer, she was just rather blah and unlikeable to me. could it be because most of the film is based from tom's point of view, probably but still even after he realized everything, i realized i still didn't like summer.
A-/B+ range. can't decide yet.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
I was kind of fascinated with Summer myself. I think the movie would have been better had the first half been from his POV, and the second from hers. While I loved it, I didn't love how one-sided it was. Clearly it's not as simple as "Summer is the bad guy." We don't get to see how it was through her eyes. I guess that's not the point of the movie, but it would have made for a better one. Still, I can't complain, as it is an awesome movie.

I think the point is to hate Summer... or at least never understand her until the very end, on the bench.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
Yeah, you can tell it's written from the guys' perspective (besides the fact that he spells it out in the beginning) but that doesn't mean it's not a well-made film. Although, the second time around, I didn't love it as much as I did the first time, which was extremely surprising. "You Make My Dreams Come True" worked better when you didn't see it coming, but "Expectations/Reality" still packs a punch, although obviously not as strong once you know what happens. I don't know, there's some films I really could watch 5-10 times and never tire of them, and for whatever reason I don't think this is one of them.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
I understand the idea of a defensive pack mentality surrounding a movie, but not this movie. Whatever.
It was on to one solid idea; the conflict that arose between Tom's traditional notions of relationships and Summer's more modern, casual paradigm. But by the ending, when she does that really-out-of-character thing in such a brief span of time, the film had become more about the whims of the heart and fate, so to speak, or some such less interesting bullshit.
And how dare the opening credits promise me the infantile line-readings and expressionless hilarity of Minka Kelly, only to give her six lines in the last scene. I waited the whole movie for her to come and amuse me!

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
I feel like the concept of fate is the most trite possible theme of all possible themes in all possible worlds.
Two people struggling to reconcile their different approaches to dating is relatable and engaging. Douchebags whining about fate and love-at-first sight makes me want to see The Final Destination. Or, better yet, go there myself.

Considering yosh's opinion on Joseph-Gordon Levitt it has always been a given that he wouldn't like it.

I wouldn't have chalked this up as a case of a major miscasting sinking the ship (like, say, the other week's Bandslam). Put Amy Adams in the Levitt role and I still don't like this.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
Oooh, I'd have loved if Amy Adams were in his role. Adams and Deschanel together? Yay! And I'm gay . Or better yet, Adams and Emily Blunt in the roles. From sisters in Sunshine Cleaning, to lovers in (500) Days of Summer. Yes, it would have been an even better movie .

You would not like a film with Amy Adams and Zooey Deschanel hooking up? Well, here's another member of the K-Gay right there!

Zooey Deschanel is now comfortably on my shit list. I liked her in Elf. Then there's the rest of her career.
