Christian wrote: Love RHCP. Ross, I'm still the biggest Verdi fan, more than Puccini, Donizetti, etc. Rigoletto puts all other operas to shame its just so catchy. I know Verdi is like pop opera, but I can sing along. I also like Tchaikovsky, for the same reasons I like his ballets. Catchy, campy. And I have a soft spot for Offenbach/Tales of Hoffman. Mozart is ok, but a bit long winded. I do like Marriage of Figaro. I really basically like the light campy operas, not the wieghty ones that hit you over the head and drag on for four hours. So, I'm opera-lite. Yeah, check out glimmerglass. Small, intimate theatre with singers that usually come up for the summer from the MET or other major venues in the US. Its top quality for half (1/3) of the price and such a small place you pretty much feel like you're in the front row even if you got the cheapest tickets. I mean, you're still at Cornell, right? Its probably only about an hour, hour and a half away in Cooperstown. You could day trip it, or stay the night (its really nice there).

 Re: KJers Workout Tracking Thread
lol, except I have no friends that are into opera. Well I once did, but I threw away that relationship. Have you ever seen Bergman's Magic Flute movie? I'm kinda curious whether I should keep it on my Netflix queue. I definitely prefer the Italian operas. I've never liked Donizetti (though, to his credit, he did write the piece in Lucia di Lammemoor that's become the "definitive standard" for judging an opera singer's vocal ability; but that opera is so miserable and depressing). L'Elisir d'Amor is fun (though I've never seen it; I have the Pavarotti/Sutherland recording).

 Re: KJers Workout Tracking Thread
Sutherland/Pavarotti/Milnes is the best Rigoletto ever!
I haven't seen Bergman's Flute, but I have to confess except for Figaro and Cosi Fan Tutti, I am not that into Mozart operas. I bet Bergman did an interesting job, though. I would check it out. Let me know what you thought.
What? You don't have a friend who would try it out just for a new experience? Like someone who has never heard one and would find it fun to do something special? There's some nice museums and a beuatiful park and the Baseball Hall of Fame in town, too. You could make it a fun day trip. Even if you had to go on your own.

 Re: KJers Workout Tracking Thread
i love the "women only" gym near my house. there's a sign above their entrance saying "NO MIRRORS, NO INTIMIDATION"
the rest of the entrance is just a glass window looking into people who are exercising, the gym is also situated on a main road. FAIL.

Ack don't bring up women's gyms. I remember that leading to some absurd argument everyone had with Joe (what else is new) in the past.

 Re: KJers Workout Tracking Thread
i actually get annoyed with exercising with friends, because i feel the need to follow what they do when i really want to do the things i want to do. then i feel bad if i want to do something else.
i'm considering taking up yoga.

Yoga is great. I'd suggest Iyengar over something like Bikram or Vinyasa if you're just starting. I haven't done it in months, unfortunately

They always do some contemporary and some classical ones. Yes, its only a summer opera....in a wealthy little enclave that was once the property of Fenimore Cooper's father, I believe. close. a beautician and a hairdresser. Goldmine. That's almost as bad as the side-to-side storefronts for Weight Watchers and The Enchanted Forest candy store that used to stand on Newbury St. in Boston.

I mean, I hate him, but I love his stuff. Heartless and Love Lockdown make my ears smile, among his newest CD.
