 Re: HARRY POTTER 6: Half-Blood Prince (INTL.) - $835.3m (#18)
The gap is closing quickly because HP5 opened to 6m in China it's 5th week (which is why it nearly matched it's week 4).
Though HP6 also had a pretty good week overall. Adding about 47m vs HP5's 52m (ww), the difference being China. OS it was 36m vs HP5's 43m, again, the difference being the 6m HP5 gained from China's opening this week.
If HP6 drops roughly 30% again this coming week, it's WW total will stand at roughly 894m after 6 weeks vs HP5's 872m after 6 weeks.. So it should still be 20m+ ahead of HP5.
This should be close, close, close in the end.

Meh, at this point i think HP6 will win, with $25m it has still plenty of a buffer, don't think it'll lose it all, HP5 is gaining too little per week.

Yep, it's going to be quite close. Not a bad drop, better than previous weeks...that's a start.

Hmm, $900 million is happening, but not $950 million. It's absolutely unbelievable that Ice Age 3 will beat this overseas. Mostly thanks to Germany and Russia, I suppose, heh.

Hmm, well, I'd add Mexico, but Harry Potter claimed quite a few markets as well, I think.

 Re: HARRY POTTER 6: Half-Blood Prince (INTL.) - $835.3m (#18)
It's pretty obvious that Ice Age 3 was more consistent that Potter around the world.....even without the help of Japan and Italy.
HP6 will surely beat Ice Age 3 in Asia, but it's gross in all the emerging markets including South America and some mid-tier countries in Europe were simply AWESOME.
HP6 - $300m + $630m = $930m Ice Age 3 - $197m + $670m = $867m
I don't see anything touching these two this year unless Avatar surprises with some gangbuster gross domestically and overseas. I can definately see this playing much better than Transformers in pretty much all markets due to the holiday season factor...so an easy $450m+ overseas i think.

Damn, I just noticed how Ice Age 3 owned Harry Potter in France and Spain...wow.

If you take top 12 overseas markets Potter won in Asia (South Korea, Japan and China) and two English-speaking territories UK and Australia.
Ice Age 3 has six victories in Germany, France, SPain, Russia, Mexico and Brasil and mostly by huge margin.

I think the gross in Brazil for IA3 might be the most mind-boggling for me.
Potter owned it in the UK, Japan, and most of Asia, but that's about it, it seems.

In Mexico too. Ice Age 3 beat Titanic for the No.1 All Time Chart. <.<

 Re: HARRY POTTER 6: Half-Blood Prince (INTL.) - $835.3m (#18)
Harry Potter's beating Ice Age 3 by about 2 million euros, but Ice Age's performance is still probably more impressive. The only two animated movies ahead of it still are Finding Nemo and The Lion King, and unless it starts falling real hard, it'll probably surpass Nemo. I'm hoping it doesn't, but with less than a million to go after a 266.000 weekend... Anyway, Potter! I really wonder what the performance of the past... 4 (?) movies would have been if they'd been released during the winter holidays instead of during the summer. Here in Holland, there was a pretty hefty dropoff after the second movie: Potter 1: €15.357.977 Potter 2: €13.613.274 Potter 3: €8.344.969 Potter 4: €10.086.939 Potter 5: €10.102.345 Potter 6: €9.656.724 The next one, released in November, should be interesting to track. I'm fairly sure a large part of the international market still has stronger winters than they do summers.

I'm surprised HP5 beat HP4 in euros. Where's HP6 headed for in Neterhadsn.

 Re: HARRY POTTER 6: Half-Blood Prince (INTL.) - $835.3m (#18)
It'll easily top HP4 and HP5. Even with the worst possible scenario (50% drops from now on, and terrible weekdays) I see it ending with at least €10.200.000.
Given that it only dropped 20% (for a €479.330 weekend) over the past weekend while the weather was excellent, and the prospect for this weekend is pretty lousy (after two very hot days). Its hold should be in the same range, and if it is it'll pass HP4's total next weekend and HP5 the weekend after that.
I'm thinking it'll end up somewhere between €10.500.000 and €11.000.000, enough to bump Jurassic Park and Pirates 2 out of the all time (well, since 1991, data before that is iffy) top 10 to end up as #9.
Edit: actually, looking at its weekly totals and drops so far, I think its chances of crossing €11 million are pretty solid, so something in the €11 mill - 11.2 mill range sounds good.

The only all-time chart I know of is completely outdated, but you can find it here: http://www.nfcstatistiek.nl/top999.htmHarry Potter is 2nd, 6th, 12th, 13nd and 16th on it. It's possible that something like Quantum of Solace crept into the top 15, but as you can see the chart's from the start of 2008. -.- The top openings chart conflicts with the all-time chart too: http://www.nfcstatistiek.nl/topop.pdfOn it, HP4 is shown to have made more in total than HP5 did in euro's. HP6 should still outgross it though.

It's simply unbelievable how after such an enormous star worldwide it still won#t pass $1 billion. Maybe the next one?

Nah, i was always like don't jump the gun. We knew all along it would shatter international opening weekend records because it opened in pretty much all markets day and date. No Potter has done this before.

Actually this is the first one where anybody has mentioned the Billion word. I sure didn't think it would do it. I saw 950-970 at the most. Deathly Hallows Part I has a great chance considering it opens in November, has a weak slate and then add in inflation. It should also get a bigger IMAX rollout than HBP. I give it a 50-50 chance right now.

I didn't think it would do it BEFORE it came out.
I did think it'd do it during the first week of its release, though.
