That's the thing only Fanboys will care about avatar day, plus it's still a closed Trailer, so even if it's good how do you market it after that especially if no official trailer follows immediately after that. All you'll have is the internet boards lighting up but you won't be able to reshow the footage or analyze it. I hope someone leaks it on torrents virally

I was under the impression that official trailers would follow Avatar Day.

We've yet to even hear how tickets will be distributed for AD, how many theatres, how many showtimes.

You cant fault marketing until we actually know what the marketing plan is.

Trailer comes out same day I believe. Though it won't be 15 minutes.

Hell they could at least just release a teaser with only good music, a slow animated drawing of the words James Cameron Presents... Avatar... and then just show a pic of the Na'vi face they have already released and the date. that would at least give it some awareness.

You should follow my thread more closely. ;)

In addition to the 15 minutes footage in selected 3D theaters they will also release a trailer on "Avatar day":

Quote:
The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX® 3-D, IMAX® 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.

The other thing , now that I think about it and as probably other s have mentioned, Almost all of the most recent blockbusters have come from rich and well established source materials (Books, TV, Comics, World events/ Disasters, ECT.) Here we have something totally new with no reference points and it's Scifi with a little romance between an alien and a man dressed up like one. Yeah I'll eat this shit up and be there for Avatar Day as well as a Midnight opening, but it's going to be much harder to convince my wife the way she had to convince me to go see Titanic.

That is what I have been thinking. I don't see how this will appeal to female. I am not sure if they are exactly interested in watching romance between blue aliens.

Then it'll be attached to Inglorious Basterds, Post Grad, and Shorts in 2D on the 21st, and Final Destination in 3D the following week. That's covering alot of bases.

I also hope the romance is not too over the top as that might lose the men as well

Too bad none of them will be making much money.

Should have gotten a teaser out in June or July with TF2 or HP6.

But still it is better than waiting till october for the teaser i.e. eragon. Boy that movie sucked.

Considering Sigourney Weaver cried for 15 minutes after seeing the film, I think its safe to say its pretty romantic.

emotional because of the romance/relationship between Jake and Naytiri. I doubt she was crying because of the 45 battle sequence between the mechwarriors and inhabitants of Pandora.

Dunno if all the crying can be attributed solely to the romance, though. I cryed in ROTK and not because of Aragorn / Arwen. ;)

Why did you cry at the end of ROTK? Was it because of the characters and their relationships and how those relationships concluded? Hormone levels out of whack? Because it was the end of the trilogy? You were sad about something non-LOTR related?

That's why we have so many adaptations, sequels and remakes. Studio heads think just like you. ;)

While being more of an effort original IPs can be just as successful if done really well and generating great WOM.

Did you edit in "relationship" later? Maybe i skipped it on my first reading...

Why i cried in ROTK? The soundtrack was amazing. :P

Seriously, music is HUGELY important to me, i hope Horner succeeds in composing a soundtrack as great as his Braveheart and Titanic scores. The brief snippet on the homepage didn't particularly impress me, though...

It would have been great and had met typical expectations to have something attached to HP6 or TF2. But nothing about Avatar seems to be typical.

I guess they didn't have a 2D trailer that they liked. You only get one shot to knock it out the park when you unleash a trailer.

The thing is, Avatar is so special effects heavy, they probably didn't have the shots ready to cut a great trailer.

That may be true but I guess what I really saying is if it ends up being one of the best grossing movies of all time great we need a new and exciting IP, but the signs right now don't point to that if even half of that.
