 Re: The Proposal
Formulaic and highly unrealistic, yet sweet and ultra-likable. B.

 Re: The Proposal
I'd say the movie was pretty dire. It just sits there, completely devoid of energy. That said, it did have the curious effect of making me like Ryan Reynolds for the first time.
The end credits were lively and had far snappier dialogue than anything that came before. It seems to have been made by people other than those responsible for the rest of the film.

 Re: The Proposal
This was great. I don't see why everyone has to call it formulaic though. I didn't care if it was or not. In fact I don't really realize it at all. If you think about it everything is formulaic in some way or another. So, A for me. Also, really funny, definitely enjoyable, deserving of its gross and great chemistry. Reynolds worked perfectly and Bullock was actually likeable. Also irrelevant but why is "likeable" highlighted on spell check? "likable" doesn't even look like a word.

 Re: The Proposal
{Once again, I have made an exception to my common practice of posting my review directly to the "Everyone's A Critic" forum, and have initially posted this minutes ago in my Cinemania thread "Which Should I See: The Ugly Truth or The Proposal?". }So I ended up seeing The Proposal tonight... after all. ...and all's I can say is that it is arch, contrived crap. (It's just plain lucky that it turns out to be well-written arch, contrived crap!) ((Plus even luckier that it features some great performances 1!)) ((( 1 I can't say great acting, since the cast of old pros is never allowed to show it - - it's all quick-cut, low-rent, comedic editing. ))) (((( But I can't say I didn't laugh.)))) (((((:zzz: out of ))))) ((((((One thing's for sure, it t'aint no Ugly Truth... )))))) ((((((())))))) ((((((((Om™))))))))

6/10 -> C
Merely a decent romantic comedy. It does nothing to separate itself from anything that came before it, nor will it affect anything after it. The two leads are likable, but they're not given a strong material here really (actually nobody is).

Me and my wife enjoyed it a lot when we attended. Can't remember it too well, but we laughed.

 Re: The Proposal
This is another one of those movies that I put on when I need to have good laughs. It works well both as a comedy and a decent romantic movie. Bullock is great here but Reynolds is exceptional and Betty White steals the scenes she is given. The love story isn't given enough time to breathe but its still great to follow.
