However, purely being proud of the color of your skin seems like an odd concept to me.

But as one person already mentioned, why would anyone seriously be proud of anything their race has achieved? The only thing you have in common is that you were born in the same location as other people that achieved great things. If that's all people need to be proud, then my God, that is sad. Being proud of your achievements or those of your family, I can understand. I can also understand banter with friends about wars gone by where you can extrapolate some jovial pride from the outcome (for example how people joke with Germans about still being pissed at losing WW2), but to genuinely be proud is surely crazy.

Re: Is being too proud of your race to an extent racist? It is an interesting topic, though. Not just the immediate insanity of such pride, but also the hypocrisy between the races. For example, I do not think it is uncommon to hear a black person refer to themselves as "a proud black man/woman", and we all see that as perfectly fine. Even encouraged. But say a white person says the same thing, they might as well be on their way to a klan meeting.
