Amazing. But equally amazing is that IA3 did $11M overseas this weekend. $362M as of july 15th. It will pass 400M this weekend and is a lock for 500M now.

Yep, Ice Age 3 and Potter are clearly over-delivering in my books. Huge numbers, where going to have a $500m grosser and a $700m grosser for sure. Avatar might even make that 2x $500m grossers.

But HP6 will open about 15% higher than HP5 DOM, if it does the same OS (should be higher), then the film will gross approx. 448m it's first week. Seems very, very high, yes, but HP5 did not open in all markets the same week. Japan, Poland, Russia, Turkey, and China being the big ones saved for week 2 or for August, and HP6 has all of those it's first week this time. And the 5-Day in Japan is going to be over 25m.

I don't have my files with me here so i can't say but the 5-Day opening is gone for sure.

Great numbers for Potter WW. It should make 700 million and cross the billion mark.

Some more Odays.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118006109.html

The "Potter" franchise has always been big overseas, with the films pulling in even more coin internationally than domestically. "Half-Blood Prince" posted boffo results in its first round of territories, including scoring the third-highest opening day of all time in the U.K. ($7.6 million from 1,305 screens), the second highest in Italy ($4 million from 923) and the third highest in Australia ($4.4 million from 484).

In Holland, it posted the biggest opening of all time at $1.3 million.

No, Mamma Mia didn't have a huge opening on the levels of Potter....the record would still be held by HP3 which opened during a holiday Tuesday....and possible one of the other Potter pics...again, i can't help out now sorry cause i don't have my files with me.

Really, though? I mean, you have to account that $58m of that is from NA, and nobody is expecting it to do $580m domestically. What was OOTP's opening day WW?

On BOM some one Posted that it opened with $29.2m OS.

Edit: Here's a link to an article from 2007:

In Germany, it is currently looking at a 2.2 million admissions 5-day weekend which I think would be about 5% up from Order of the Phoenix' 5-day weekend.

NETHERLANDS - Opening Day

OOTP's 5-Day is the current opening champion at $3.5m, that will surely go. HP3 did $2.81m 5-Day while HP4 did $2.7m 5-Day.

HP6 if it follows HP5 will gross at least $4.6m over the 5-Day weekend.

Harry Potter 6: HBP - $1.3m
Harry Potter 5: OOTP - $980,000 (€719,000/ 92,000 adms. - 192)
Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $645,164 (€523,680 - 199)
Harry Potter 3: POA - $542,696 (€442,772 - 302)
Pirates Of The Caribbean 3: At World’s End - $542,527 (178)
Harry Potter 4: GOF - $433,123 (€368,242 - 252)
Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen - $374,937 (Wed)
Spiderman 3 - $369,000 (€271,000 Tue)
Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $361,966 (€354,000 - 130)
Star Wars 3: ROTS - $288,962 (€180,014 - 115)

ITALY - Opening Day

A close second to Spiderman 3 but is almost a full $1m above HP5. HP5's 5-Day was $10.9m whereas Spiderman 3's 6-Day is the current opening champion at $14.9m.

HP6 should easily exceed $13m i think. It's going to be either #1 or #2 opening of all-time.

1) Spiderman 3 - $4.02m (€2.95m Tue - 900)
2) Harry Potter 6: HBP - $4m (923)
3) Harry Potter 5: OOTP - $3.1m (€2.3m/ 375,000 adms. - 837 TC)
4) The Da Vinci Code - $2.6m (€2.03m - 910 TC)

OVERSEAS - Opening Day

As you can see, this is a strong increase over HP5. It takes over from Da Vinci Code as the strongest opening Day of all-time. HP6 also has the largest WW opening weekend.

Harry Potter 6: HBP - $45.8m (Wed - 33 territories)
The Da Vinci Code - $43m (incl. some Wednesday openings)
Spiderman 3 - $29.2m (Tue - France/Germany/Italy/Japan/SKorea - 18 markets)
Harry Potter 5: OOTP - $29.2m (Wed - France/Germany/Italy/Spain/Australia/Holland/Brazil/SKorea)
Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $23.5m (19 territories)
The Matrix: Revolutions - $18.8m (80c/107ter/10,013tc/18,013pc)
Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $15.58m (14 territories)
War Of The Worlds - $13.35m (46 territories/4958 locations)
Pirates Of The Caribbean 3: At World’s End - $12.1m (13 territories - Wed)
Lord Of The Rings: FOTR - $11.5m (13 territories)

Post Re: HARRY POTTER 6: Half-Blood Prince (INTL.) - Opening Day
Saw HP6 today (Saturday afternoon, 2:45pm session about 90-95% full).

Thoroughly enjoyed the movie though hated the crowd I was seeing it with, a squandron of little kids (mainly boys) who were so annoying, holding glowsticks and non-stop chatter. It got so bad that I had to nudge this little guy on the sholder as he was freaking waving his glowstick close to my face. Idiots :grrr:

Movie was definately a step up from HP5 and is easily the most emotionally resonant Potter film so far. I still rank HP4 as my favourite but this would probably be up there with HP1 and 2 for me.

HP6 is setting up HP7 very well....the final two films will surely blow.

My ranking

1) Harry Potter 4 - A+
2) Harry Potter 1 - A+
3) Harry Potter 6 - A
4) Harry Potter 2 - A
5) Harry Potter 5 - A-
6) Harry Potter 3 - A-

Post Re: HARRY POTTER 6: Half-Blood Prince (INTL.) - Opening Day
I don't know how popular bringing information from the BOM forum is, but I found a few interesting pieces of information there. Here (some editing by myself)

From shrimpy_boy11:

Quote:
* Highest grossing opening day of any Harry Potter film * Highest grossing opening day of 2009 * Third highest grossing opening day ever behind 1) Lord of the Rings: Return of the King ($919,502) 2) Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ($757,887) 3) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($734,544) 4) Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring ($720,933)

* Highest grossing Wednesday ever at New Zealand box office * Fourth highest grossing day ever

.

From WildEdward:

Another record in Italy Rolling Eyes Very Happy

HBP did about €1.5m yesterday (estimates say slightly less), record for a Friday/3rd day.

After 3 days the film grossed about €5.9m and with saturday and sunday remaining, it is heading towards a €9M 5-day record.

Italian source: http://www.badtaste.it/index.php?option ... &Itemid=48

It'll be a sunny weekend so maybe theatres won't be as crowded as I hoped they would, but HBP should still manage to do a lot of money while the other films are projected to drop like rocks.

Actuals from Finland :

Opening Day - $124,080

Good, but not impressive.

Warner Bros Poland sucks! I know we aren't a big market but last movies made 6m $ each. I'm pretty sure that new movie will also make over 6m $ so why wait with the opening?

Does the studio really have any say in this? or is it up to the distributor? at times both are not the same.

I wonder how they managed to get a day. date and time thing going with Revolutions

It's mostly the problem with Warner Bros Poland. They have this let's delay a movie for unknown reason. But at least they are beating one record next weekend. HP6 will be shown on 196 copies, which is a new record. ( I actually hoped for 200+ copies, but few cinemas didn't open on time because shopping malls they are in, are not complete yet )

Quick note
Australia HP:HBP defiently going to take the crown 5day wed-sun (#1 HP:OOTP 16.971mil) ,for 1st 5 days(any) will be either #2 or #1 (#1 rotk 18.7mil).
The normal weekend results (Thu-sun) looks like becoming 2nd biggest if not biggest (#1 TT 14.139mil, #2 Trans2 13.647mil). all depending on sunday

Yep, right where we think it will open to. Will probably be closer to TTT than Transformer's opening. It's going to be very very close.
