Hobbit Thread (3 Films!!!, In 3D!!!, With PJ Directing 1!!!)
http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/04/17/the ... more-25322Del Toro Quote: We’ve decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur. Jackson Quote: We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie. The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the trilogy.

That's silly.

Re: The Hobbit Is Now 2 Films, No Word On LOTR Prequel
having read The Hobbit, they could've cut some stuff and made it a lean, super-entertaining single picture. Spanning it out to two... well, as long as they aren't both like over three hours, it should be fine.

I actually prefer a Hobbit in 2 films as opposed to a bridge film they would have to make up a story for.

Jesus, just leave it as 1 movie.. The HOBBIT is not that complicated a story that requires 2 movies or even a trilogy like LOTR.. GREED BABY$$$$ on the part of the studio..

I hear that Peter Jackson next hopes to tackle an adaptation of The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room.
It goes almost without saying that this one may span as many as four movies.

It goes almost without saying that this one may span as many as four movies. I don't think that really leaves room to explore just how the big storage closet is set up, with just four films. I'm thinking a fifth for the storage closet then maybe a bridge film to close the gap of what happens between the Messy Room and the Trouble with Chores.

Heh. I may be more comfortable with two films based on solid source material than the bridge film.

Yeah, the bridge film sounds supremely uninteresting. Whatever, I trust the two to do the right thing. Neither Del Toro or Jackson have failed me yet.

Re: The Hobbit Is Now 2 Films, No Word On LOTR Prequel
Splitting up The Hobbit in two films is silly. I'm not saying I want a bridge film either. Just a The Hobbit adaptation would completely suffice. As one 3-hour-long film.

I wouldnt mind one Hobbit film and one bridge film - just for another LOTR fix. Splitting The Hobbit doesnt sound too good.

If they keep it true and under 2.5 hours, I could go for 2 films.

Re: The Hobbit Is Now 2 Films, No Word On LOTR Prequel
Didn't want to make another thread since I'm not sure how big of a deal this REALLY is, but it could end up being huge: Quote: Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Middle Earth, New Line Cinema and MGM face another lawsuit that could jeopardize production on "The Hobbit." The Guardian reports that J.R.R. Tolkien's heirs are suing the filmmakers for $220 million dollars in unpaid profits from the film trilogy, and trying to terminate further film rights to Tolkien's work due to breach of contract.
"Should the case go all the way to trial, we are confident that New Line will lose its rights to 'The Hobbit,'" said Bonnie Eskenazi, the lawyer working for the author's son Christopher and the family's charity, the Tolkien Trust. http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/07/17/th ... n-lawsuit/Can this franchise catch a break?

Re: The Hobbit Is Now 2 Films, No Word On LOTR Prequel
New Line supremely fucked up on all this. The last smart person in that fucking company was DeLuca, and he was kicked out after being "crazy" enough to give Jackson $300 million for LOTR.

 Re: The Hobbit Thread
No. All of them are too young, scrawny and/or pretty. You need a Bilbo that'd look like a decent match for a 35-year-old Ian Holm, and has body hair. Consistency. Martin Freeman. Has the perfect demeanor too. Bilbo's not some grave-ass character. Think maybe the Shire prologue in Fellowship. EDIT: Tennant? A 6'1" hobbit? No, just no. And don't say Rhys-Davies, because dwarfs are larger.

This is an example of wanting to milk a good thing when it's not necessary.. Don't worry Peter.. The 1 movie alone will make a fortune if you don't do something illogical like make a trilogy of this...

 Re: The Hobbit Thread
The LOTR films are still beloved and will be remembered as the crowning cinematic achievement of the decade. A few naysayers on the net wont change that.
As for Freeman, good choice.
