Excuse me?

No.

Retract any negative comments said about this movie. :disgust:

Never.

Seriously, it's bad. The acting is just... atrocious. Or maybe it's just the completely inept screenplay/dialogue. Either way, I was laughing about 90% of the time.

Sorry Libs.

You have to at least give props to James Garner...the scene close to the end when they are dancing and she forgets who she is. Man, when he started crying...

Try watching it again in 35 years...

When i'm 55?

Will that magically make the acting better? How about the script? Will the direction cease to be made for tv quality? I'm excited to find out...

I get it. This is supposed to be some deeply romantic film I won't get until later in my life. Bullshit. The New World is one of the most romantic films i've ever seen, and I deeply appreciated every moment of it. This film is as deep as a fucking puddle.

She was okay. I guess it was prety impressive that she was able to choke down that wretched dialogue without bursting out into laughter.

Seriously, though... I lost nearly all the respect I had built for Gosling off of Stay. He was downright terrible in this.

It just ended on TV. God, I swear I think I'm obsessed with this movie sometimes, I of course watched part of it.

I'm watching this movie for the first time right now in over a year. It's so great. I raised my rating to a 9/10 (A). Rachel McAdams was robbed of an Oscar nomination.

How many viewings so far?

I think I stand at three (which I suppose is a lot for a guy).

I'll always associate this garbage with my freshman year roommate, a dude who spent all day trying to hunt down a copy of this. Why, you ask? Because he had asked a girl to come over, and he cynically believed that if he put this on, he'd get lucky.

He found his copy at the last minute, and you know what? He did get laid.

This event is perhaps the only positive thing ever to come from Nick Cassavetes. Thank god his dad is dead. I would not want him to see this fucker sully the family name.

Yoshue, you are deader than dead to me!

People who hate The Notebook have bad things happen to them in life. It's science.

I cannot see why someone can hate this movie, even if they are the most masculine male on the planet.

If a Romantic film can get men to sit down and watch it and like it, its on a whole new level by itself.

Its one of the few romantic films that are not Corny at all what so ever.

Well made film and really if they are going to make a romantic movie, they should make it like this.

it's very sweet and very well-acted, and I know I sure teared up at the end. But the story also moves too quickly and things resolve themselves without much suspense, and for me, that takes away from the suspense and anticipation. Still, it's a hard movie not to like.

Uh. Why was everyone so gaga about this? It was atrocious. A.troc.ious.

Terrible acting. Terrible script. Lousy soundtrack. Choppy (read: bad) editing.

And it was so obvious that it was trying to pull all the right heartstrings.

Did other people not realize the old couple and McAdams/Gosling were the same? I knew that going in but still.

Anyway. One of my least favorite romance/period pieces, ever. Ever.

And it gets a C-?

That doesn't add up.

Also, I'm pretty sure A.troc.ious is not pronounced the same as atrocious.

Well I'm giving it some benefit of the doubt because I think I had the ending spoiled for me (did people not know they were the couple in the book?) so that might have slightly ruined it for me...and the sappy ending.

And I mean, it gets a few points because Gossling was pretty to look at. And the film generally "looked" nice (cinematography etc) I just didn't like that the editing was kind of choppy here and there (in addition to terrible acting etc)

It does take a lot for a romance (comedy or drama) to impress me. 75% of them I hate because they are too cliche (this didn't really suffer from that I guess).

Oh and I loathe Nick Cassavettes now. Do all of his movies revolve around
Spoiler: show
people dieing??
(My Sister's Keeper, that silly Mandy Moore one etc)...

Nick Cassavettes movies?

Umm...did you watch the trailers? That's um, pretty much spelled out for both of the aforementioned films.

I also don't approve of cross-spoilers of other movies - - even though spoilers are allowed in this forum, the spirit of the rule is that they be related only to the movie being discussed in the thread. I haven't seen My Sister's Keeper yet, so I my eyes had to take a hard u-turn in your spoiler post above...

The gentlemanly thing to do would be to simply edit your post and add a spoiler tag.

:)

Yeah, wouldn't want to spoil the ending of the movie with the little girl who has cancer.

Wonder what'll happen in that one.
