Brüno (pronounced as Bruno) is a 2009 mockumentary comedy film directed by Sacha Baron Cohen, who produced, co-wrote, and starred as the gay Austrian fashion journalist Brüno. The film is the third based on characters from Da Ali G Show, following Ali G Indahouse and Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

Definitely the best movie of the year. The social commentary in this movie is quite profound and really paints the picture how segments of the population view others and themselves. Even if some scenes are staged, then they have one talented casting director)

I really don't get the fuss coming from the gay groups, this movie is very pro-gay. It highlights the hypocrisy of religion and gay conversion camps. The reactions in the audience to some scenes actually impressed me.

Best bits:
1 on 1 stuff (the model, clairvoyant, paula abdul, the parents of the babies auditioning, Gay conversion counsellors)
the focus group
the talk show

Excellent, but I think Bruno is much better especially in regards to social commentary.

No, it's just smarter than what it is. And no, i don't adjust grades because I'm not a pathetic loathing human being like yourself, seeking to get attention from all avenues of your life that people only accept you in. IE, KJ and nothing else.

and please stop following me around on KJ and commenting on everything I do and see. it's kinda sad.

you have adjusted your grades following the formation of a consensus more reasonable than your own lowly opinions several times, and I have seen it.

lol i love crash when i first saw it. i watched it again a few months ago, and it wasn't all that great because i've probably watched it more than enough. In my opinion, it rightfully deserved the Oscar for Best Picture.

its the same about how i feel about Austin Power films. I love them initially, but if i watch it again i can't enjoy it.

this is why i don't see movies more than twice unless its positively delightful everytime. Mean Girls, Romy & Michelle.

and is that all you got. You are going to make such a scene over this. fuck off, matt. Next time you want to hijack a movie thread take it to the water cooler.

100x more vulgar and 10x funnier than Borat, Burno is an extraordinary piece of filmmaking to say the least... I was laughing my ass off the entire way through, but was also in shock at the sheer intensity Cohen put into creating this character/film. There are many more memorable scene than Borat and with its extremely short running time flowed smoothly. I actually was wanting more by the time it ended. Even though Borat was comedy genius, Bruno is comedy genius in a much more polished and in-your-face film. Get is right about the social commentary, which is frankly appauling at times, but almost always hilarious. This is really a love or hate movie and I can not see anyone being in the middle. For me though, its got a guaranteed slot in my top ten of the year with a solid A. I really think those out there who consider themselves homophobic won't make it 15 minutes into this movie. If only more movies could be as memorable and hard hitting as Bruno.

Seeing it tonight, but I'm glad to hear it didn't disappoint. I figured it'd be "good," but not nearly as funny or shocking as Borat. Guess not.

Eh, really? I had always heard Arkansas is somewhat liberal for the south. Comparatively, at least.

The South, as a whole, is pretty fucked up. You might find a few pockets of lovely like Savannah or Asheville. But otherwise, yeah, not so good.

Hated it. Really didn't like it, and I loved Borat, and was looking forward to this, even if it wasn't going to be as good. People need to skip this "commentary" bullshit like Cohen's some genius and actually grade this film on how "funny" it is. And it's barely funny at all.

D (for now).

It's about as good as Borat was. It's consistently funny throughout with only a couple of minor lulls, it's more vulgar, and the commentary is spot on. My only problem was that it didn't quite feel as fresh as Borat did. That's probably an unfair criticism since it was a problem they couldn't really avoid, but the constant question of what's real or not was sometimes distracting. That saying it's still one of the funniest films thanks to another fearless performance from Cohen.

***

Also, disregarding whether or not it was padded, but how the hell did that chair miss Cohen's head in the wrestling ring?

I thought it was just as funny as Borat, and funnier than almost every movie I've seen between then and now. Cohen has got to be the ballsiest comedian ever.

Bruno was 10x more ridiculous than Borat.

Borat, however, was 10x funnier.

This really disappointed. I mean, I laughed. There are some funny parts (Bruno's video to the sample audience was great), but most were shown in the trailer. The story isn't nearly as good, the character is far less likable, and a lot of interviews and ideas were really stupid (like the conversation with the mom about her child losing 10lbs. - stupid). The end song with Bono and Snoop Dogg was forced. But, like I said, this was far more ridiculous, too. And I give it props for taking it wayyyy farther than Borat did. I was shocked in certain scenes (but not laughing). Cohen is just the most ridiculous human being ever, and for that, this gets a plus. But I wanted hilarious-ness.

I cried laughing at Borat. This was sadly just decent, and not consistently funny.

Oh, and one thing that I lovvved: using "My Heart Will Go On" during that scene in the ring. Hilarious choice.
