I am actually very positively surprised with this year's box-office performances in Germany. Many positive surprises (The Reader passing 2 million in admissions, Transporter 3 almost doubling the second one's total, Slumdog Millionaire being one of the leggiest films in a long time). The only one that really kinda disappointed me was Star Trek. I really am surprised it didn't get more admissions. It's looking to end with less than 1.4 million.

EDIT: yep, 33.71m yuan the first day, surpassing Red Cliff's opening day record of 27m.

Taiwan's opening day of $1.7m is insane if true, considering that's bigger than the total gross of every weekend but one this year. The original Transformers grossed $1.7m in total. Hong Kong's $0.5m is very good too.

The Chinese and Koreans are leading the way....boo the Japanese

$5 million from Russia includes previews, but still more than impressive. We haven't seen anything spectacular this year until this. Too bad Ice Age 3 is coming next week to cut the legs.

At my theatre it seems to have been a bit frntloaded. Not as much as T4 was, but still a bit frontloaded. There are less tickets sold for today so far than yesterday at the same time of the day.

Another $3.7m on Thursday in China. Will break 100m yuan in the first 4 days.

DAY 2: Analysis

Australia:
Day 1 - $2,107,161
Day 2 - $4,255,903

Thu was a slight uptick on Monday, meaning that in 2-Days it has made just over AUD$4.5m. Just over half of what the original made over 4-Days. Expect another $8m+ over the weekend for a total north of $12m.

China:
Day 1 - $4,897,472
Day 2 - $8,555,472

One of the most impressive performances so far, has already made about 70% of the original's gross.

France:
Day 1 - $2,181,041

Opening Day was on par with Indiana Jones in US$ ($2.2m)

Germany:
Day 1 - $2,181,041
Day 2 - $2,779,055

Dropped massively on the 2nd day, the original grossed $5.8m on opening


Hong Kong:
Day 1 - $505,024
Day 2 - $961,757

Not the strongest opening day of all-time, but somewhere in the Top 10. T1 opened to $360k then grossed another $1.45m to finish with $1.8m for the weekend. It's already more than half way there and should cross $2m. It's currently tracking just above Spiderman 2 which made $929,285 in 2-Days and ended up with $1.985m. It won't match Spiderman 3 though which holds the opening day record at $958,984 and over $2.3m in 2-Days. That one ended up with a record $3.7m opening weekend.


Malaysia:

Day 1 - $828,617
Day 2 - $1,304,620

We have a new opening day champion, and it has made nearly as much as this year's highest opener T4 at $1.4m. Spiderman 3 ended up grossing $2.5m (over 6-Days), Trans2 should at least match this over 5-Days.


Mexico:
Day 1 - $2,219,818
Day 2 - $3,056,985

Will probably clear $10m over the weekend, brining into the Top 5 opening weekends of all-time. Iron Man did $1.9m on opening before grossing $9.6m for the weekend, T2 should at least match Spiderman 3's opening weekend record of $11.9m.

New Zealand:
Day 1 - $541,392
Day 2 - $627,201

The first movie in years to come close to ROTK's opening day record ($590,000+ and just above HP5's $537m), and should gross more than $1.5m over the weekend. HP5 currently holds the record at $2.2m (5-Day) followed by ROTK at $1.67m (4-Day).

Philippines:
Day 1 - $725,089
Day 2 - $1,219,943

Tracking just behind SM3 (record holder) at this point.


Russia:
Day 1 - $4,965,988
Day 2 - $6,562,488

2-Day Total is already this year's highest opening weekend. Should gross north of $12m. Target is Mummy 3 at $13.4m.

Singapore:

New pening day champion just above SM3's $670k opening day, that made $2.6m for the entire weekend, record.

South Korea:
Day 1 - $2,330,072
Day 2 - $4,219,682

Hmmm, not the super big grosses we expected. US$ opening day is weaker than the likes of D-War $2.9m, Die Hard 4 ($3.1m), Spiderman 3 ($3.46m)....the original Transformers made $2.1m.

It's tracking behind DH4 in 2-days, that one was already at $5.3m....and made $11.3m over the 5-Day. Though expect Transformers 2 to really pull ahead over the weekend, the original transfromers did $11.2m...so if we can expect just $10m from T2, that'll already be $14m....enough to enter Top 5 ow of all-time. T1's strength wasn't actually on opening but legs....though this opening doesn't give me confidence that it'll surpass the original...by much.


Spain:

Taiwan:
Day 1 - $1,705,687
Day 2 - $2,509,107

Already amongst the top ow's of all-time...T1 made $3.5m over 5-Days....expect this one to take the 5-Day record (and ow record)....Jurassic Park 2 to this day still holds both titles at $4.6m...followed by War of the Worlds at $4.1m. Trans2's opening day was almost $1m higher than WOTW's $727k.

Thailand:
Day 1 - $798,265
Day 2 - $1,177,198

Already grossed more than 50% of the original's $1.8m opening. It just missed the Top 3 opening day records held by:

1) Spiderman 3 - $1m (34.1m bhat - 326)
2) Harry Potter 5: OOTP - $868,568 (299)
3) Pirates Of The Caribbean 3: At World’s End - $864,086 (204)

Should hit arouind $2.5m for the weekend.

Archangel when you look at south korea numbers dont forget WON is like 30% lower compared to TF1 levels. So the actual number is better than how it looks. Ticket sales give much better picture.
