No, I'm not suggesting the Academy's cool enough to nominate this for anything big, but...
if "Blame Canada" from the South Park movie was nominated, I absolutely think this could make the cut as well. And Ed Helms performing this at the Oscars
anyone else think it could happen?

No, South Park was actually good as a musical apart from its comedy.

Re: The Hangover
but this movie's gonna make over six times more money than South Park did, canceling that little fact out.
I think it'll happen... it's just like how they chose "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" as their Best Song choice just to seem cool a few years back. I don't think anyone considers Best Song a particularly important category, so it's one where they'd be willing to nominate a song like this, I'm guessing.

It will be cool nomination.
If Gonna Fly Now from Rocky got nominated - granted, that was Rocky - which only comprised of a chorus singing the following over and over:
Trying hard now it's so hard now trying hard now
Getting strong now won't be long now getting strong now
Gonna fly now flying high now gonna fly, fly, fly...
...and the movie is still doing big numbers... so, why not, Academy? lol

You really think that's on the same level as Blame Canada? Really, now?

it doesn't need to be. The movie was about ten times bigger. And Blame Canada's an example of them nominating a comedic song performed in a movie by one of the characters... perfect example.

It's a horrible example! South Park was also a musical. A twisted musical, but a musical nonetheless. The Hangover is...not.
Funnyman ED HELMS has Academy Award hopes after movie executives at Warner Brothers urged him to submit his half-improvised piano ballad in THE HANGOVER for Oscars consideration.
Helms and director Todd Phillips wrote the tune Stu's Song - about tiger kidnapping, friendship and Las Vegas debauchery - just hours before they shot the scene, and movie bosses were so impressed they insisted the pair got serious about the comic song.
The actor says, "We went through the whole process; I hired, like, an orchestrator to write it out... It's in the running." Helms performed his Hangover ditty, fully orchestrated, on The Tonight Show on Thursday night (06Aug09). He also showed off his scat singing skills by performing with fellow guests the Jonas Brothers.
