Not only that but whey it didn't open higher than it did for such a high RT score which is rare for movies like this..

Went to this movie on Saturday now have some time to write about it.

I got to say I never had some much fun in a Movie theater in a long time. This movie had just about everything you could expect in a Sam Raimi movie funny comedic moments scares, a swearing goat, and a great ending to top it all off.

8 out of 10 I may of raised it up a point if Bruce Cambell made a Cameo.

Here, Kitty Kitty. Ohhh fuck. Alright, I knew going into this I would somewhat enjoy it but I did not expect to absolutely love this movie. Warning: This movie is not, I repeat, not for anyone who doesn't get this hybrid of horror/comedy. If you're taking your friends, specifically take the ones who are at least educated in film a little bit because people I know, who aren't think its just stupid. And it is, it's dumb, but smart in the way everything was portrayed. I have not had this much fun in a movie in my life, I mean really. First of all you need to see it with an audience, they can make or break the experience (get ready for some people to leave) but if they get it, and go along with it, it is a fucking joy ride, trust me. My audience was most urban, and I had 4 black girls sitting right behind me, and they made it and even more livelier experience (the scene with Lohman eating the ice cream out of the tub, which was an intentional cliche, they uttered "that is such a white girl thing to do!". I then proceeded to, loose my shit). Anyways onto the movie. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Fucking hilarious, scary as hell, gory, fucked up, messy, nauseating, grotesque, intense, engrossing, on and on. This film is what a theatre experience should be. Alison Lohman completely vamps up here role especially at the end of it. Justin Long is just there, as is everyone else besides whoever played Ganush (the old lady, I dont know if thats her name but thats the name I've given her). After having been watching Buffy for the last, oh I don't know, month, this film, it's atmosphere and everything it entails was completely up my alley. Actually, Lohman's character reminded me a lot of Buffy, as she was quite strong and portrayed really well. The film again, is not for everyone but for those that understand and appreciate the genre, they will eat it up. Moments have you in stitches (the car cat fight is my pick for best moment of the year by far, I pissed my pants). But even though it completely vamps it up, it's also really scary. Instead of failing in quick scares like Prom Night did, where our heroin is falling every 5 seconds, we have atmospheric scares that are genuine and work not only in the moment, but linger in the atmosphere. Every scare, every moment was done perfectly, taking advantage of everything that it was given. My thoughts are so scattered but if you loved Evil Dead you will absolutely adore this. I have a new Halloween favorite. A-. (my only problem was the ending, nice irony but the graveyard scene was so strong and left on such a triumphant note that it felt bland in comparison).

I'm in love with this movie. I can't stop thinking about it, and when I do it makes me smile. I agree about the garage/car fight scene being one of the best scenes of the year so far. It's my favorite and shall remain one by year's end.

Loved it. Kinda didn't want her to be dragged to hell in the end - even though deep down I always knew that was how it had to end...

Well, it didn't have to end that way.

I thought it would have been cooler if it turned out the coat had belonged to her mother and in the end we find out her mother was sent to hell. That would have been a neat little twist and kind of wicked. Her going to hell was a little too predictable because, at least to me, it was expected. I still didn't mind the ending though, I just hoped for something a little different. It was neat that towards the end you're never exactly sure where it's going to go. I mean, I figured somehow she'd go to hell, but they played it out in a way where you just didn't know for sure what would happen.

I think there should be an over-the-top sequel where Justin Long goes to hell to break her free :P.

Christine's mother? The one we only hear a single reference to? Well, I guess that might be funny in a Family Guy skit sorta way, but it would have also been a cheat, to the audience and the film itself. Raimi absolutely nails the morality play set-up by making such a strong case for Christine to turn old Mrs. Ganush down that the audience becomse complicit in her act. From there, we never leave Christine's side, making her demonic encounters all the more up close and personal. Half the time the spooks jump right out at the screen, cementing the first-person narrative. Completely allievating Christine of the inevitable consequences in such a random way would be letting the viewer off the hook, break the established rules, and generally short change all parties involved. The curse seems so inevitable that it's no surprise when the ground around Christine opens up into fire and brimstone. What really sold me on the ending was her screaming for help while her eyes bulge out of her rapidly disintegrating face. That was the real punch in the gut for me.

Heh - insightful analysis Dude!

(They'd also have to change the title to something less inevitable...)

Now that I could go for!

Drag Me To Hell propulsive narrative already reminded me of Crank, so a High Voltage-esque amped out crazy ass sequel would be just the ticket in my book.

Bring on Drag Me Back From Hell!!!

Yeah, I suppose you're right. I change my mind :P.

I still want a sequel ;).

The funniest, scariest, and all-out best movie of the year thus far.

Raimi totally redeemed himself for Spider-Man 3 with this one.

Awesome, it just never stopped from captivating. I feel it's over-praised though, at least on RT. I also saw the ending coming thanks to the guy in the theater who reminded of the coin in the envelope which I totally forgot about!

B+

I thought it was pretty obvious that it was the coin in the envelope :P. But I still wasn't sure how it would play out. I was wondering if her boyfriend would get sent to hell since he had the button. Though I think you have to make it clear that you're giving it to the person in order for the button/curse to be passed on to them.

Bleh. It's not even the best movie of the past 100 hours.

It's the best movie of the year so far :P. There's so much here to love and appreciate. It's very well-done. So many movies have tried to blend horror and comedy and failed (or certainly didn't succeed on such a level as this one).

I thought this comment about Drag Me To Hell by someone on another forum was both accurate and illuminating:

Quote:
"The characters take the plot seriously, but the movie doesn't. As opposed to most horror movies who do the opposite."

Sweet Jesus what a hilarious heap of shit.

Raimi has crafted the rarest of films, one that works hard on its shit level and succeeds very very well.

when the only way to make a good genre movie is to make a bad genre movie, your genre is dead. I liked this very much and would be elated if it were the last horror film ever made.

I dont understand
Spoiler: show
Why Justin Long didn't get dragged to hell. The second she dropped the envelope in the car, I knew they would get mixed up, but it was in his posession, I thought whoever had it and didn't reject it would be dragged to hell

Other than that, it was pretty awesome. Raimi mostly takes a lot of stuff he did in Evil dead but was able to capitalize on his commercial appeal now. Solid A

She had to make a formal gift of it; they were quite explicit about that. She never actually gave it to him.
