 Next franchise reboot = Buffy??!!
Quote: The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/con ... d83ae30855

Um... I'm sure this is going to get MASSIVE resistance.
I'm only on Season 3 myself and this already sounds like a terrible, terrible idea only to "cash" in on the success of Twilight, which is very ironic considering Twilight stole most of its elements from Buffy.

I've never seen an episode of Buffy nor have I ever wanted to. The same can be said for the movie. With that in mind I can safely say that it's too soon to do a Buffy movie without the Sarah Michelle Gellar group. They need to wait at least 5-10 years before getting to work on another version.

There's a huge difference between doing a movie without SMG and those actors and just redoing the franchise entirely with no relation at all to what people love about BtVS because, guess what, it wasn't the 1992 movie. The fact that the Kuzuis (those responsible for the first movie) would be involved says enough of what the "quality" would be.
The Star Trek relaunch actually involved the same characters and world of the beloved series, it didn't just take the name and vague premise then start all over with new everything. Who would even want to see that? Also, no Joss Whedon or Mutant Enemy writers involved=no thank you.

It's a remake/reboot of the shitty 1992 movie, not the best television show ever. So I really don't care that much. I surely won't see it.

This is such a bad, ugh. I'm not usually so put off my reboots or remakes, but this one is just stupid.

I sent Roy Lee a nice little e-mail explaining why this will be a financial disaster.

I think the only thing you Buffy fans have to fear is if it's good enough to warrant competing with the show in terms of its beloved mindshare. Really, that's all anybody really has to fear from remakes. There's been remakes of a ton of stuff throughout the entire history of cinema and all the bad remakes do is help raise awareness of the original then fizzle and are semi-forgotten or (at worst) are so great that they displace the original. If that's the case then it'd be a worthy excersize.
