good for the bo, depends on how you look at it personally. Good imho.

I'm tempted to do a below 150 overall club, but we have too many Star Trek clubs already

I think that $65 million is still the absolute limit for its opening weekend.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
First two reviews that meta-critic posted are both 100 scores, there is clearly a lot of love for this movie, which will help it immensely.

Quote: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek doesn't open till Thursday night around 7 pm, but Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, is reporting that the film already accounts for 81% of daily ticket sales on the site. Star Trek has sold out more than a hundred opening weekend show times across the country from New York to Los Angeles, from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania to Colorado Springs, Colorado http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayRelea ... 642&EDATE=Not bad considering WOLVERINE is doing pretty good...

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
I just reserved my tickets for Thursday 7 PM showing... There's an earlier showing at 4:30 PM, but I'm thinking too many teens will be there. They blab a lot usually and I'll try to avoid that. All the good seats for the 9:30 PM showing were taken, otherwise I would have reserved those tickets.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
Here are some predictions from back when I opened the club: -less than 30 million opening with a finish around 70 million -I put it at 35 million opening and 68 Million final -opening? 30's, maybe 40 -$30 mil max. -Even the best reboot imaginable does not point north of 40 -Make something like 46. When things go good.... We'll find out in a couple of days who's gonna be right...

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
I'm not from USA. Films here always open on Thursdays. It's a regular earlier showing (I find it strange they didn't put one at 3 PM. I don't think they're expecting much from ST here. Only 3 showings on weekdays and 5 on weekend. Wolverine had 4 and 6 I think. Next week Wolverine has 4 showing on weekdays and 7 on weekend.

I looked at this thread last winter and thought the film will bomb. I certainly do not think so after seeing the buzz(though with huge marketing budget it will still be a financial flop unless OS explodes). If the film makes 80M+ after sunday you can claim being close. If it makes only 60-65M this thread is another EPIC FAIL.

If it does over $85m OW then this thread can be assumed to be "in the ball park" and kudos to Mark, below that and its a failure.

Rotten Tomatoes still at 100 % (33 reviews) but average rose to 7.9...
Metacritic is at 94 % (8 reviews)
IMDB still at 8.2 but the share of 1 point haters is shrinking (now 10.2 %)

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
In the pop high it delivers, this is the greatest prequel ever made.
that's just one comment from 5 100s on metacritic, this is ridiculous, the movie must really be something.

Both Variety and THR report 3,800 theaters (138 IMAX), Paramount lowballing with "happy with $50-60m opening"... http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/con ... ccbc6374d1http://www.variety.com/article/VR111800 ... id=13&cs=1

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
I dont think Paramount is low balling. WB was low balling TDK when they mentioned 90-100M. None of the rival studios thought it would open that low. Here all studios are concurring with Paramount. I think it will be quite accurate.

Studios are always lowballing their movies to prevent "disappointing numbers"...
