VisuaLs, acting, direction, music....it's aLL ground-fucking-breaking.
I saw it for the 4th time Last week and it stiLL Lives up my Top 20 ranking for it (dunno if it deserves Top 10 yet but it shouLd stay in my Top 20). Kubrick's 2nd best for me (you know the first) and I don't get the Love for StrangeLove.
A+

trailer i just made
one of my all-time faves. One of the most thought-provoking movies I've ever seen, matched by an equally powerful sense of visual and musical beauty (something noticeable in all of Kubrick's work). Malcom McDowell as Alex was one of the best casting calls ever. A+

thanks.
yeah, i had trouble figuring that line into the trailer, i tried it in a number of other places where it worked even less. probably should've taken it out.

Umm...this is one of those, what the fuck did I just watch moments.
I love kubrick's brilliant style, I admire Malcolm McDowell's performance, and I was blown away by the whole event.
But, honestly, is there a point to this movie? At all? I just really don't get it. I was hoping for a futuristic dystopian plot-line akin to that of A brave new world or 1984, that isn't what this. I don't know what this is. It's....something. 8.5/10

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

so you subtracted 1.5 points from the movie for your own shortcomings? that doesn't make much sense.

Part of a movies responsibility is to make sense. Now if I were some 8 year old idiot (as you seem to see me) that can't understand anything more complicated than F&F than it is my short comming. But I can comprehend almost any movie, and struggled with this one. Maybe on a second view I will grasp it, and thereby drastically raise my rating (as shack did) but for now, this is how it is.

The only thing the newbie did wrong was actually give it a grade before seeing it again. Kubrick films for the most part require two viewings before they can be properly judged.

actually that's a point. Which is why I didn't make a huge write up or anything, I'll wait for a second or third view before I really stow away with my opinions.

It happens. Not to people with brains, but it happens.
Says the person who claims Speed Racer is one of the top 5 films of '08. Don't try to play the upper class snob, or you'll steal away my spotlight as the most ironic and oxy-moron filled poster here.

Speed Racer one of the top five films of '08? Crazy!
Top ten? Yeah, I can get behind that line of reasoning.

hah, even that I can't see. It was a really cool film, but very very flawed. Although with what a shitty year 2008 was, it probably wasn't too far off.

How difficult is it to see the point in this film?
It is an interesting moral companion to the book, though, I'll grant that.

For me, very difficult. If you care to enlighten, be my guest.

He had the capacity to utilize Wikipedia when he came up with John Savage as his new nickname. I guess one does not unlearn that.
