 Les parapluies de Cherbourg [The Umbrellas of Cherbourg] The Umbrellas of Cherbourg Quote: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (French: Les Parapluies de Cherbourg) is a 1964 French musical film directed by Jacques Demy, starring Catherine Deneuve and Nino Castelnuovo. The music was written by Michel Legrand. The film dialogue is all sung as recitative, even the most casual conversation.
Umbrellas is the middle film in an informal "romantic trilogy" of Demy films that share some of the same actors, characters and overall look; it comes after Lola (1961) and before The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967).

Re: Les Parapluies de Cherbourg [The Umbrellas of Cherbourg] Despite its slightly underwhelming ending (I was like, that's it?) the movie is very good. I was loving it so much perhaps I wasn't ready for it to end when it did. It left me wanting more!

Re: Les parapluies de Cherbourg [The Umbrellas of Cherbourg] I loved it. Loved the colorful sets and the cinematography. Catherine Deneuve was lovely. Such a sad (or rather bittersweet) ending.
