haha...that was just a ceremony example, but I posted one too, with a few changes.

Yes, we are having a vote for the winners after the nominations are announced sometime after the 17th.

Yeah, use Mav's one as the guideline for how the winner ceremony will be ran.

For the nomination announcement ceremony, it will be simplier since we'll just be announcing the nominees a category at a time, as Adrian Brody and the Academy president did. It'll take longer than what they used since we're announcing every category instead of just the big ones and leaving the rest to a post. I'll try to speed things up while also giving people a window between each category to give predictions and debate who/which films are snubbed. I wonder if matatonio would like to do co-annoucing with me.

Are yu kidding? We're having another round? Can someone else please mail out the ballots next time? It was one time thing for me, I'm pretty frugal with my favors. Xia and Mata? Are you guys going to do any of the hosting as well? I'd love to hear from all three of you.

Oh yeah, and I finally sent in my ballot just now. I wanted to see Ray, Closer, and Maria Full of Grace before I submitted it.

What'd you think of the latter two?

Aren't they great?

Maria Full of Grace was excellent and a clear cut narrative that wasn't particularly melodramatic. So excellent *points to sig*. I'm still pondering Closer and am writing the review tomorrow. the thing about it is, its thoughtful, and allows for reflection, but it also feels a bit superficial and cliche. I have to think about which one it actually is, and even if it is thoughtful, do we care. Its not bad, because clearly I lean towards at least thinking about it. but right now its anywhere between B- to A-, i still need to decide. it would take a second viewing, but I don't have that luxury, so basically writing the review often helps me figure out how I feel about it, and that'll help me pick the grade. what did you think of it? and yeah, my Ray review is already up...I didn't like it.

I can see what you're saying about Closer, except, it's such an achievement. The audience ends up watching 100 minutes told with four chracters and ONLY four characters. Did you notice that there are essentially no supporting characters besides maybe a taxi driver in the entire movie?

Mav, I'm going to redo my ballot. I've seen everything except for The Aviator (well, of the movies I wanted to) and I'm ready. Expect it tonight.

Yeah, but when you think about the fact years ago they were already doing movies like Closetland with only two characters and in one room with no furniture, that's not even such a great feat. I dunno, I still have to think about it. basically i like how oddly pragmatic owen was, and also the name game with portman, which left the ending much more open than i expected. had it not been for that one twist, it would have shut down so quickly I would have given it a B- or C+, but that one little twist reinformed the entire movie, so now I'm not sure. I wanted to slap the jude Law character though, which was so annoying that even if it was how the role was intended, i just could barely sit through his scenes.

Oh yeah, and fyi, I voted for Bad Education related noms 12 times, 8-[

I don't walk out of too many movies. But I walked out of Closer. I love Julia Roberts and Natalie Portman. That is the reason I gave it a shot. This movie is garbage at its very best. Mike Nichols made me hate 4 people with a passion.

I would have to give up on my All-time favorite character James Bond if they ever cast that moronic Clive Owen as JB. Please say no to Clive [-o<

well i don't think they're supposed to be likeable, so i had no problem with that. I just had trouble with some of the heavy cliches which were genuine this time rather than how the intelligent Nichols usually uses them to create a full space and personalities. here they opperated on their own, like Portman's streetwalking scenes. they don't hold a dime to tess walking in her white socks and sneaks to her crummy manhatten job. That's an individual amongst the crowd shot that worked, unlike these. Jude was a bit too much, and Julia was just, well, Julia. i'm glad she tried these more ambiguous protagonist-less flicks, but somehow she still hasn't transitioned well. she'll need to do a few more to get thebox office rom/com thing out of her system.

I'll send my ballot on Thursday.

Of the top of my head...Closer will get at least three noms from me, Hero at least four, Kill Bill Vol. 2 at least six, Spider-Man 2 ar least four, A Very Long Engagement at least three...

I'll see at least four other relevant movies before the deadline. Bad Education, Sideways, The Aviator and Eternal Sunshine of the spotless Mind.

Nope, it is a miserable failure. I hated them because of their horrible performances and the putrid script.

Don't confuse the dislike of a character like Percy or Wild Bill in the Green Mile to this. I loved The Green Mile and their performances.

Oh i know, but are you going to be there to talk and host and just tell us the inside scoop on what a pain it is to manage all the ballots? Runner ups in each category? i need to know if bernal even came *close* in anything, since he won't win anything, and I'll positively *die* if he doesn't at least get runner up in something.

Anywho, some quick numbers, since I'm sure you're all just *dying* (note the sarcasm) to know what i voted for. Its the most contested tie-breaker ballot, i'm sure my votes will *really* swing the winning tide (note more sarcasm).

*Bad Education - 12 noms (counting bernal for Entertainer, so its only half a vote, since motorcycle diaries is the other half)
*Moolade - 5 noms
*Eternal Sunshine - 6 (Winslet and carrey for entertainers)
*Kill Bill - 8
*Maria Full ofGrace - 7
Motorcycle Diaries - 6
Very Long Engagement - 4
And other noms were Coffee and Cigarettes, Saved! Incredibles, M$B, Finding Neverland, Lost Skelteon of Cadavre, Dodgelball, Guerilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst, The Agronomist, Manchurian Candidate, Aviator, Vera Drake, Dodgeball, and a bunch of other ones too.

*entries are my submissions for best pic. i have a funny feeling i'm trying to brainwash people, but it's just a sneaking suspicion, i'm sure it will pass soon.

matatonio, I asked in another post: would you like to be the co-host for the announcement ceremony? So I will present one category, then you do the next one, and back and forth.

Hey, I'm all for that being the priviledged information of the ones who sweated out all of that counting.

There will probably be a seperate thread that updates the winners as they are announced, so I don't care if you want to list the others, but I think she should offer to help count if she really wants to know the totals. :-#

No, I want a surprise. It takes all the fun out of it when you know all the numbers ahead of time. I can't believe you guys offered to do it with out being tortured a bit in advance or anything! Thanks for doing all the counting and hosting you three.

Torture can be fun, under the right conditions. \:D/

Thank you for the help you've given too. I spoiled one suprise by sending you my first monologue joke, so I hope that didn't ruin it for you. [-o<

I love The Green Mile, even moreso than Closer (which I liked, though) The kinds of characters that Wild Bill and Percy are, are completely different from Closer's characters. Percy and Wild Bill were well-made, but typical all in-and-out villains. Closer's characters are not villains, they are just unsympathetic people, based on reality. They exist all around us.
