 Monsters vs. Aliens
Monsters vs. Aliens Quote: Monsters vs. Aliens is a 2009 American computer-animated 3-D science fiction film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The computer-animated movie was the first to be directly produced in a stereoscopic 3-D format instead of being converted into 3-D after completion, which added $15 million to the film's budget.
The film was scheduled for a May 2009 release, but the release date was moved to March 27, 2009. It was released on DVD and Blu-ray September 29, 2009 in North America and included the easter egg to the upcoming movies and previews. Monsters vs. Aliens features the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Conrad Vernon, Rainn Wilson, Kiefer Sutherland, Stephen Colbert, and Paul Rudd.

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
I also give it a B+. At first I was thinking B, solid considering it's a pretty weak story. The visuals are awesome (first time I've seen 3D, my local theater just added a 3D screen, and I went to the first showing ). Totally worth the extra $3 IMHO. The + is for Seth Rogen, as he makes this movie funny as B.O.B. Overall entertaining 1.5 hours. Kids in the audience laughed quite a bit, as did the adults. My only complaint is that everytime you go to the theater you have to pay the extra $3 and get a new pair of glasses. I wish they would give you some kind of discount, even a dollar, for reusing the original pair.

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
Seth Rogen is by far the best of the monsters. In fact, he's probably the only character monster or human that's worthwhile.
I would have never guessed Reese Witherspoon the unappealing actress would also make for an unappealing cartoon character.
The story is very very weak but the visuals at times are great. Tough one to grade.

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
MVSA is a fun, animated, throw back to the horror films of the 60, 70 and 80's. From the monsters like B.O.B to classic scene's like teenagers finding the monsters on a date, it's a nice ode to the monster genre - but very, very kid friendly. A little to kid friendly for my taste. The script has some nice adult themed jokes in there that are hidden. The animation is stunning and the 3D is fun. All the voice work is exceptionally well done and the story is cliched but again, fun. Harmless entertainment but it does not compare to Dreamworks' best effort, 2008's Kung Fu Panda. B+

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
I'm not sure I completely understand how B.O.B works. He ate the concrete dividers because his stomach is very corrosive. But when he ate Susan's mum, nada. Same with the aliens.

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
My only problem was with the wide shots of Susan, her height always varied. I know the ratio aspects were probably hard but at time she looked normal height - when she wasn't. The bridge scene would be the best example of her not being really a "giant" and in the church she was massive.

**.5/**** indeed the depth of every scene was amazing, and the hair of every character had to have been real.

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
Wow... I honestly can't believe how shitty this movie was. It was an hour and a half of pure knockoffs of a combination of shitty saturday morning cartoons. Sure insectasaurus and BOB were funny, but other than that, it was pretty lame... Probably the worst dreamworks animated flick ever. D/D+

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
Thanks to its box office, I hope we see more interesting monsters in the sequel.
The underground base was beyond massive for only 5 monsters (6 if you count the late Invisible Man).

Colbert's President was the best thing about it, even outside of that its alot of pulpy fun.
Plus this line was gold: We need to get our best minds on this! Somebody call India.

 Re: Monsters Vs Aliens
The thing I don't like about animated films nowadays is that they prefer the all star casts rather than who actually would make an entertaining animated character. Comics are fine but some stars just haven't worked in animated films.
Robin Williams as Genie...great!
Ellen as Dory...obviously a slam dunk.
It worked for Tom Hanks as Woody in Toy Story as both he and Allen as Buzz Lightyear worked well together. Allen also is a comedian and used to do a lot more standup. They had a good straight up character vs goofy character.
Murphy as Donkey...great!
Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona...very replacable.
Nicole Kidman in Happy Feet...very, very miscast and odd...

But no-one, not even myself would argue that MvA had a better story and had much more heart put into it... I didn't love Wall-E, but its still good film making...
