Trailer review:
From http://www.horrorchannel.com/dread/modu ... le&sid=949
"The real surprise for me was the unannounced showing of the trailer for Dark Castle’s summer release: House of Wax! The trailer hasn’t been released anywhere else that I can find, so I believe we were the first audience to see it (along with the other military audiences screening Constantine this weekend).
This remake of the classic Vincent Price 3-D masterpiece has either no buzz or bad buzz, depending on whom you ask and what time it is. Two words: Paris Hilton. Man, that’s a buzzkill if there ever was one, eh?
I’m here to tell you that this reporter and his horror-loving girl-ghoul were shocked in a big, big way. If this trailer is any sign, House of Wax looks to be the surprise of the year.
I’m not sure if this would be considered a teaser trailer, I put it at a good 2 minutes, and there was an awful lot of action shown. It definitely wasn’t a "logo followed by 15 seconds of quick-cut visuals" kind of teaser, that’s for sure.
The setup appears to be simple: college kids have car trouble. College kids stumble upon spooky, rural town. Entire town turns out to be populated by wax figures, who are actually wax-covered human bodies. Maniac who loves turning humans into wax figures begins terrifying and murdering the kids. Hilarity ensues.
That doesn’t sound like much, but the trailer was all business. We’re shown a body (alive? dead?) in an apparatus being showered in hot wax. We’re shown figures coming to life and assaulting people. We’re shown people struggling in vats of wax. Paris Hilton runs a lot and screams a lot. We also see her as a wax figure, so if nothing else we’re assured she dies a horrible death at some point in the film. Elisha Cuthbert manages to look incredibly cute and terrified at the same time. We see tunnels and catacombs that seem to be sculpted out of wax and body parts. Fire. Screaming. Blood (or red wax?) in mass quantities.
Most important, we see the villain.
Yeah, that’s a shocker, eh? It’s a Dark Castle picture with a villain (you’ll note that none of them, so far, have had a single direct antagonist save for maybe Ghost Ship) AND we get a good look at him within the first trailer! And what we see...boy howdy, I have to say, it got my engines running. He’s got long black hair, wears a trenchcoat, and has two nasty knives. We see him drawing them, jabbing them, slicing and dicing...the guy just screams "badass" and gives me great hope that we may have a new movie monster/villain to love and hate. Hell, I want an action figure of him just based on the trailer.
The trailer elicited more screams and jumps from the audience than the whole of Constantine. I’m telling you, start those buzz-motors up again because I think we may have a live one if they can manage to extend the feeling and visuals of the trailer over a 90-minute movie."

Yeah, for a movie called House of Wax, it's a pretty damn creepy poster.

They forgot a part. "May 6 - Shitty Release Date". I like the poster, though.

No problem.
I must admit, i'm surprised at how much of a turnaround we've seen with this film. A couple of months ago, it was suffering from some of the worst buzz for a big time studo horror film in quite sometime. And now, a pretty cool poster and what sounds like an awesome trailer have completely changed that. It will be very interesting to see how this thing turns out on May 6th.
And on another note, I actually like Paris Hilton, so that was never a detraction for me.

May 6 is a shitty release date.
One would think that horror geeks are in large part sci-fi geeks, so there's pull to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and then one would think Kingdom of Heaven also has it's appeal to the same audience.
Weird.

I hope it's horrible, because I don't want it taking away Hitchhiker's chance for success. The box office is too crowded for both of them to be hits.

Kingdom of Heaven, yeah, they should be worried about that. But I'm not convinced Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy will do more then 15-20 million opening weekend. I'll say for sure when I see the trailer with The Pacifier though.

If HOUSE OF WAX stays in it's rubbish crowded release date, then i think it's going to end up with rubbish numbers. No matter how good the trailer really is.
Hopefully they will move it!
