Are there people seriously not voting for Avatar?

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
I'm just incredulous to that. Cameron's a bigger lock on special effects than Lucas at this point.

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
Avatar is all lockity locked up here.
TF2 and Trek I guess, though it would be awesome if Where The Wild Things Are gets in.
There are some cases of puppeteering work getting in and apparently CGI'ing the faces onto the Jim Henson animatronic creations was incredibly difficult.

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
Maybe. I think it's going to be viewed as more of an Art Direction/Costume Design film.
The Lovely Bones is totally an unknown factor at this point. The only things I'm sure of are Avatar and Star Trek.

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
TF2 is definitely not gonna be nominated as it got 19% on RT. Vfx nomination depends on the quality of vfx and the reviews of the movie. TF2 failed in latter category.
I think Star Trek has a very good shot at vfx nomination alongwith District 9! D9 vfx is innovative and fresh. But we still have Where the wild things are, 2012 and Avatar coming out.
I say at the end of the day
1) Avatar 2) Where the Wild things are 3) District 9 or Star Trek
2012 should be nominated as it has some really insane cgi with building crashing, waves etc but it most likely will get a sub 50% on RT.

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
they really should change it to five this year. Avatar, Lovely Bones, Transformers 2, 2012, and District 9 would be an awesome group of noms. And more awesome if Stark Trek snuck in over TF2.

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
If it was 5... I would want Trek over 2012.
That would be it's only way in.

No Star Trek please, its visual effects look as low-budget as Power Rangers.

District 9 deserves a nom here, but I can't recall the academy nominated a low-budget film even if it deserves it (ala sunshine).
