I don't hijack the threads. I just voice my opinion about how terrible most rom-coms are (some are actually good, like When Harry Met Sally and As Good As It Gets) with their gender bias. Others then follow attacking me, thus hijacking the thread.

All you have to do is look at the numerical evidence: Rom-coms are very one-sided in their draw, horror movies aren't. Horror movies are also more profitable. They pretty much never lose money.

And this won't settle anything: It will just show how many are pathetic enough to not only hate but want someone they've never actually met in person dead.

I can't even remember the last GREAT horror movie. They've been bad for SO long.

Romcoms usually have one great one per year.

The Shining and Suspiria and Alien and Halloween and Psycho and The Thing and every Cronenberg movie disagree.

I hate to agree with Joe, but horror is a much more successful genre, both artistically and financially.

Horror is horror. If the thread title was "RomComs vs. Torture Porn" maybe my answer would be different. But, as it stands, horror is a helluva lot better than romantic comedies.

And it's not like it's totally dead now, either. Only American horror movies are. And even they churn out a great one every now and then.

I like movies that are either good or entertain me. Complex, I know.

So, yes, I tend to prefer romantic comedies but I don't dislike horror. In fact, certain horror movies are some of my favorite movies (Scream, The Shining, The Ring, Halloween).

Well you could do the same for romcoms. Annie Hall, Singin in the Rain, The Apartment, City Lights, the African Queen, etc., then Love Actually, Punch-Drunk Love, High Fidelity among recent films. Actually I'd argue over history there's been more great romcoms than great horrors, but there's been more romcoms period too, as they've been around much longer. I'm sure yosh could tell you of 250 great screwball romcoms from the 30s to 60s.

For me it's pretty even. I don't usually put one genre over another... it's how you succeed in that genre that matters. There's equal numbers of success and failures for both. In this case, the failures for each genre take formula and unoriginality to a new level.

But if we're talking these mainstream throwaways, I can stomach the romcoms more. I briefly considered seeing He's Just Not That Into You last week with nothing else in theatres to see. You couldn't pay me to see The Uninvited or Friday the 13th.

It was marketed and is still being marketed as a horror movie.

But it's actually not. Marketing doesn't equal the actual movie, everyone should know that.

People don't go around saying "Uninvited was NOT a horror movie" in real life. They just tell friends it sucked ass. Thus, horror movies suck ass.

The Uninvited doesn't suck but of course, you wouldn't know that because why bother actually seeing something and being informed. I actually saw He's Just Not That Into You before criticizing it.

In any case, I think we can all agree that a fan of torture porn and DTV horrors bitching about romcoms and their poor quality ratio, is just a pure facepalm. I mean, really? Hold on I've got Sean Penn here, he wants to rant against overacting, he's really upset about its trend.
