Huh, I was too?

Yeah, A all the way.

Well, I finally did see it. And yeah, still awesome.

I DID think the film was a little obvious in its morals and stuff (Not as subtle as its unofficial companion film, The Truman Show), but it was still so good in every other aspect, it's easy to overlook. I'd also like to second Libs's comment about the score being one of the best I've heard in a film. And I'm so mad Joan Allen didn't get nominated for this, especially when I see how close she came (She won the BFCA, LAFCA and two other critics awards for the film). Seriously, this was SWELL.

The adult cast is good, as is Reese, but Tobey just didnt work for me. Visually the film is great to look at, but I always found it a little too boring.

B+

An interesting film to say the least. All the actors were really great! I didn't understand why Tobey decided to leave the place, even though he loved everyone there and even had a girlfriend. And the characters turned to color... when a change happened inside of them?

Grade: B+

Highly original, visually stunning, and very funny, with a great satiric message to boot. Really the only things that don't work for this film are the heavy-handedness of the happy ending - way too cheesy - and Tobey Maguire - who I really, really, really, really don't like. Everyone else in the cast is fantastic and the story, when it's subtle, is right on. But the real highlight of this film is the stunning visual effects. The gradual change from black and white to colour is superbly executed and makes for some very visually striking moments. It's one thing to see colour inserts in a black and white film - that's nothing new - but it's quite another to see black and white inserts in a colour film. And the way that the gradual turn into colour is actually the story as well - fantastic. It's a bit cringe-worthy at times - mostly in moments involving Tobey - but it's very entertaining and quite innovative.

Wow, I'm so glad I saw you guys talk about this film, because otherwise I'd never even heard of it (or, maybe I'd heard the title, but knew nothing about it). Wonderful concept, wonderful cast, wonderful execution. I'm pissed somebody was able to think of making this before me, because it's really one of the most interesting ideas for a mainstream movie that I've ever seen. And it was just as well-handled. Everyone in that movie except Reese Witherspoon (which was intentional) could have easily fit into the 1950s. Tobey moreso than the rest of the cast, even though he was supposed to be modern-day. Honestly, it's almost disappointing that he's really a rich actor instead of a poor coal miner with a heart of gold.

The mere reminder of this movie made me grab my copy and start watching it immediately.

One of the most magical movies ever, without question.

Too obvious. You know what's going to happen.

I mean, I agree completely with its viewpoint, but that doesn't mean it therefore is a good movie. I thought it dragged quite a bit in places, and seemed like a big budget much too long Twilight Zone episode.

Don Knotts is perfect though.

I gave it a C.

Bradley Witherberry, you seem obsessed with proving that at least one person agrees with your "opinions"/performance art regarding every single film. Insecure, are we?

I watched this when it came out on video in 1999 and thought it was solid. Decided to revisit it the other night and thought it was great. I'm glad I decided to watch it again. Such a lovely movie and beautifully done.

9/10

It's been so long. I hardly remember it. Adding it to my Netflix DVD queue....
