Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Loved it! It was simple and cute and although formulaic, it was enjoyable. I loved the leads; both did a great job. I thought I would hate it because of the PG rating, but it really worked. It had some fresh ideas that I had never seen before. I won't spoil it, but it I'll just say the way they handled the store mannequin's was very creative and fun.

Oh... I also think it's very relevant given today's economic issues. I personally identified with some of the financial issues the film brings up.

This film was so kyoot. So, so, so kyoot. Isla Fisher was fantastic and completely charming and fun to watch from beginning to end. I hope she gets more lead roles. Hugh Dancy was pretty good as well, though I can't really remember anything I've seen him in besides the pages of JustJared since he's dating Claire Danes. Anyway, this was a great, fun little movie. It was the epitome of chick flick. So if you don't like chick flicks, I don't think it'd be worth the admission. But if you enjoy a good chick flick, this is the perfect movie to see. It has a good length and never seems to drag, like He's Just Not That Into You did. I was pretty engaged the whole time, because it was really just a fun film from beginning to end.

Post Re: Confessions of a Shopaholic
I'm just happy to see a real female lead in a comedy or romcom... I mean when was the last romcom where the female makes the man cry when the proverbial beans are spilt, then instead of the norm, girl cries at home until he has the Idiot Complex and comes back with the big plan and speech, she's the one who get's it together and takes the action to come up with the plans, fixes herself up and has the "I'm changing" arc by the end in order, and she solves her life and debt problems without any help from him whatsoever (in most romcoms he'd find the answer for her and be the hero) Then there's also her getting a great job and rising to the top of it from solely her talent and real attributes (as a writer under a pen name her looks don't contribute)... In the context of romcoms and their usual formulas and Hollywood's insistence to ignore female dominance in film, someone could write a good essay on this as a progressive feminism film, I think.

Naturally Fisher blows Dancy completley off the screen. She pretty much owns it, and on a charisma level he's a poor man's Dermot Mulroney... which means he's straight up homeless. I liked the film most in the first act when they just let her high energy antics go wild, but she keeps a good balance past that too.

As a whole it's mostly a pretty reg. fluff film... it follows a lot of the rules. But I liked it. And again I think it's important to see female ed comedies hit the luber mainstream like this... next up will be having them in movies that don't deal with fashion and don't have super amazing beauties in the lead, but that's coming! (I suppose it's hard to complain about the looks thing - both for the obvious pleasing reason, but also because most male leads, especially in romcoms, are required to be attractive)

3.5/5

Haven't seen Shopaholic yet (within the next week or two, hopefully), but I'm not sure I would call Isla Fisher a "super amazing beauty." She's distinctive looking but she also looks sort of refreshingly normal to me, like a pretty woman you would see in your every day life but she doesn't come across as being super gorgeous. I think she's fantastic, pretty much the sole reason I'm going to see this.

I liked it, though it did feel a bit too long. Isla Fisher's greaaat, though. I kind of laughed hard during the dancing scene. Haha.

Too tired to write out an intelligent short review so I'll just say: absolutely adorable, Isla Fisher is incredible, corny and predictable does not stop it from being hilarious and cute.
8/10

Actually pretty cute.

Isla Fisher did a great job with the role, and the story is a good one. Coulda been shorter in my opinion.

Grade - B+

Post Re: Confessions of a Shopaholic
Shopaholic is a beast birthed from the mother of them all, Carrie Bradshaw and Sex and The City. The similarities are very evident and alarming, to say the least. Shopaholic tries to embody everything SATC and co is, but fails. On it's own though, with the help of the always, always, ALWAYS, delightful Isla Fisher and her great supporting cast ( I LOVE Joan Cusack!) it's tolerable. The film fails in a couple of things: fashion (wtf?) editing, and originality. The movie has charm and it's very entertaining and has some truly funny moments (the dance sequence, this is how you do it properly Bride Wars) and is memorable thanks again to Fisher, but it's pretty vein and self centered. The story is nice, but even with the ending it's still artificial. Glossy entertainment,B-.

Shack, that first part of your review needs to either be cut into about 4 different sentences or drastically rewritten.

Minus the sex. I was comparing it in terms of wardrobe, Rebecca Bloomberg being like a wannabe Carrie Bradshaw, moving to new york for clothes/love, etc...

5/10 -> C-

A decent, if overly cliched, chick flick. Which is unfortunate as the main idea really has (better said had) potential. But the movie feels more like a mash up of scenes from previous rom-coms, with The Devil Wears Prada and Sex & the City being the most recent and influential ones. Someone mentioned clothing - it's hilarious. I've had more fun laughing at the insane crap most characters (especially the leading lady) were wearing rather than actual jokes.

Isla Fisher has no charisma. Can't remember when was the last time I saw such a blank appearance on screen. Some of the supporting casting is also awful, but most of the actors do a good job.

I'm going to be reviewing two versions of Confessions Of A Shopaholic tonight...

First, the real one:

The actors emanate charm from every pore, they're givin' their all! From super cutie, Isla Fisher, to Hugh Dancy, to every single one of the classic supporting cast, they are all great. But then the interesting and intelligent overall storyline gets sabotaged by some just awful screenwriting. The lead character, Rebecca Bloomwood, is made to do some things that i simply did not bellieve her character would do - - and worse, mostly because I couldn't believe she would be that stupid. Then there are some plot devices here that are infuriatingly shoddy. The whole thing just gets up to speed, when it gets derailed again by some terrible decisions. And I don't have anyone obvious to blame - - the director is P.J. Hogan who has made three great movies (Muriel's Wedding, My Best Friend's Wedding, Peter Pan, and the writers - - Tracey Jackson wrote the highly underrated The Guru from 2002, and the superb Kinky Boots. So unless they're one trick ponies, they know how to write right. But, even with all these faults, it still ended up charming the socks off of me - - and that's very frustrating. So much greatness, so close to being a perfect movie, but keelhauled by faulty script mechanics...

  :) out of   :) :towel:

Second, the fantasy version:

This one comes entirely from the fantasy I imagined while silently screaming at the incompetence of the screenwriters during my screening of the film. This fantasy was one where the exact same cast was in the same overall storyline, but the director performed masterfully and ordered his writers to do some judicious quality rewrites in the clunky passages strewn throughout the movie. This fantasy version then goes on to increase it's intelligence, further exploring some of the intriguing links between money, self image, obsession, business, and honesty, and providing some smarter laughs amidst some better choreographed pratfalls. The sparkling chemistry between the two leads is retained and their romance builds in a more authentic manner. All of the characters are trusted by the writers to show their true selves once they begin to honestly write them. The whole thing culminates in a crescendo of tears and laughs, and wise nodding of the heads vigorously in agreement...

  :) :towel: out of   :) :towel:

You should still check out The International.

haha, well it has its' faults but I accepted them as inevetable considering the type of movie and audience it was going after. To be honest, considering the trailers the script was more clever and less faulty than I expected it to be. But I'm glad you picked my choice and didn't totally hate it.
