Okay, so I understand this loathing of PG-13 films like Boogeyman, The Unborn, When a Stranger Calls, etc., but am I the only who isn't dying for a slate of R-rated horror films either? History has shown us horror movies with very little or no blood and gore can still be very effective. It's just the particular genre producers keep shoving down audience's throats, slasher-type films with R-rated premises that neuter the material so teenagers can pay to see it. But other than that, I see nothing wrong with a horror movie being PG-13, as long as it can effectively scare the viewer without using cheap cliched tricks. It's not R-rated fare like Friday the 13th try any harder than the PG-13 shit so often complained about, they just show more of the aftermath.

if you count Gran Torino's wide release as its OW, and F13 manages it... this will mean that we're gonna have five 100m movies opening over the course of six weeks. That kind of thing only sometimes happens during summer! Jeez louise!

Paul Blart will be up big time from last weekend

Well really, Scream and Scream 2 are the only slasher films to ever hit 100 million.

That is just amazing for F13. Could top 50 mil 4 day which I didn't think was possible. I wonder what this means for the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street? $$$$$

Taken is just a beast. There is no doubt that the word has gotten out that Taken is one of the most entertaining movies to come out in some time. Liam Neeson is kicking ass all the way to 125 mil!!

^but that's because there's nothing that should or could have ever been huge. Honestly, if nothing before Watchmen had made over 75m, I wouldn't have been that surprised. And here we are, with Gran Torino, Paul Blart, Taken, HJNTIY, and Friday the 13th all soaring past that mark. Those were all movies that could have easily done less than half of what they're managing. But yeah, when five movies manage 100m in the first two months of the year, you've gotta be really impressed.

i feel you. Watchmen doing 250m would be more exciting than all of these 100m hits combined.

Im with Bob, the films so far have been far bigger than anyone could expect for the first 6 weeks of the year.

The big OWs are yet to come. Would be ironic if Watchmen doesnt open "that" big.

Amazing for F13. Though a little dissapointing for Confessions. They should have moved it away from HNTIY.

Fantastic for Friday the 13th. The commercials did have an event feel to it. The International disappointed as I expected. My projections give it $10 million on the nose for the 4-Day frame.

Confessions of a Shopaholic did solid business. The tricky part about it projecting this one is whether it will get a 50 First Date's like 50% Sat increase, or act like the smaller films and go up 100%. Looks to hit in a range of $17-21 million.

Taken had quite an impressive Friday increase; the movie's on WOM fire. And once again we all underpredict Paul Blart. Just incredible how this film keeps chugging along, it's going to get another $6+ million Saturday too.

Push held a bit more decent than I presumed.

Thats the exciting thing. It coul do standard '300' expectation, it could fall short (ie. recession doesnt help fanbase films afterall) or it could break out with recession madness.

Shows how important a hook is. Thats why Friday the 13th should open around that time and Halloween should open, dare I say it on Halloween.

My Bloody Valentine is going to cross $50 million on Valentine's Day. That seems fitting.

Halloween is on a Saturday this year, if H2 moved to the last weekend of October, it would do pretty good business that weekend. Then die a harsh death.

Nothing else to say about Friday the 13th. Just a very good opening day. It'll be interesting to see how the weekend plays out.

Confessions of a Shopaholic managed to do well despite direct competition from He's Just Not That Into You, all the strong holdovers, and possibly a tough plot to sell right now.

I think the International did decent, and shouldn't be included with Inkheart as 2009's letdowns so far. I'd group it with The Uninvited instead.

So that still only leaves Inkheart as the only true disappointment so far this year I feel. And fantasy seems to be dying down a bit now, plus all the competition and bad release date. It didn't have much going for it at all.

Well, the first had terrible legs too, so thats not much of a surprise.
