 February 20-22 predictions
Another big weekend? Hope so! Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail - 32M Fired Up - 15.5M (lower than expected theater count; hopefully it goes up fairly substantially. I may have the opportunity to see this early as my school is giving away free tickets starting Monday).

 Re: February 20-22 predictions
Free tickets? Why would they sponsor it?
Also, Madea will not be able to get that high.

Also, Madea will not be able to get that high. Studios want to spread word-of-mouth. I saw The International on Wednesday, for instance.

How many tickets do they give out? Also, was the WOM for The International good in your school?

It's a promotion for most midsized to major cities across America BK. If you look through the local papers at the start of the week, you'll see information for how to get early passes for weekend movies.

 Re: February 20-22 predictions
We will have another huge weekend thanks to a record President's Day Weekend... Madea will open to about 25 million, Fired Up will open with another 10. Even though Friday the 13th will fall off the face of the earth, Taken, Coraline, He's Just Not That Into will all hold really well, and Slumdog Millionare might even increase some with people wanting to catch it before the Oscars on Sunday and also with what should be a lot of press for it during the week.

 Re: February 20-22 predictions
I think the next Tyler Perry movie will perform on the higher end for the series because the audience has been underserved at the box office for month now with only Not Easily Broken ($10.6 m) and Notorious ($36.4 m so far). I think it will get the 2nd best opening for the franchise, and do $25 - 28 m.

 Re: February 20-22 predictions
Madea Goes to Jail- 28m (has 20 built in being tyler perry comedy, madea adds another 5, adds another 5, and this has the best trailer fo a Madea film.) Fired Up- 6.5m (absolute crap, and have not heard much here, a little buzz from some black cheerleader types, but they will probably pick Madea over this.)

Don't forget this is the first one that prominently features Madea in the campaign since Family Reunion, which could widen the overall appeal, and make for another $30 million opening.

 Re: February 20-22 predictions
Even though each weekend keeps killing us, we can't simply throw out numbers. It's not wise to get disappointed if Madea doesn't get 30m OW if it never had the chance. Obviously Madea is expected 30m, but it was just an example. I think that Madea will finish above 50m though, I'm not sure what other Perry movies have managed, I know they had terrible multipliers. AND if Madea does, we can only hope Underworld manages it to have all weekends having a 50m grosser so far.
ps my Jonas + Hannah group looks dead in the water now seeing that everything is breaking out. Jonas will obviously get above 50 now, HM is at least guaranteed 40m.

Future: Last House On The Left: Between 10-12
Race to Witch Mountain: Low 40's (Oddly enough they remark how dubious they are of their own number, but interest kids 6-12 is very strong and teen/adult females is actually much better than males)
Watchmen: Mid 40's
Street Fighter: Between 6-9 Jonas: High 20's Im boggled by the high numbers for Race to Witch Mountain. It looks like those Spy Kid movies

RS 22.5 est vs MTC 32 It should, but it's no guarantee since the difference is under 50%, but it's still a big difference and a great sign, if it follows the rule (while not quite as significant enough of a difference I dont feel) it would probably end up in the high 30's.
