It has been confirmed on HSX that Transformers 2 will now be opening on Wednesday, June 24 which is two days earlier than its original release. When you look at Transformers 1 and add in the 8 PM sneaks to its opening day you have a $36.6 million OD! Despite the Wednesday opening, I think $50M+ OD will happen.

Yeah there is a good chance, it is definitely the most anticipated this summer and should launch to a great start, but will probably look somewhat unimpressive and will probably not even have the biggest OW of the summer thanks to this move. HP is still set on a friday right? That should guarantee 110m+ OW.

In terms of 3-day records and analysis this is crap but its a logical move. It gets 2 extra days with less competition which is a good idea seeing it faces PE and IA3 in its 2nd weekend.

I think the only way it will miss is if they opt for starting screenings at 8:00 the night before like they did the first time around. Otherwise, it's definitely going to pass $50 million on its opening day. The hype is going to be absolutely insane, especially with how weak things otherwise look in June right now.

It's definitely doing 50m+. TDK just had a $67m OD, so the 50m threshold is much easier to cross now than a few years ago. I'm not sure about 60m, but I think it should manage a 55m OD, a 45-50% drop on Thursday, and then about 100m over the weekend.

Definitely won't excite me the way TDK's performance did (both because I actually liked TDK and because it was much more surprising), but this is the only movie with massive potential this year, so I'll be happy if it does really well.

Probably depends like many have said if the film has 8PM showings becase that will count as a Tuesday Gross which would likely keep it under 50M on Wednesday.

both films currently adjust to 46m, that will be transformers opening day without midnights.

It is probably a lot better for it in the long run and can do 50 million opening day. It is looking like now that Potter will have the biggest OW of the year, unless it moves to Wed as well.

8 PM shows are guaranteed for TF2, but I wonder if DW is going to try to push a 6 or 7 PM early showing to generate even more revenue.

Part of me wishes all big movies would open about 8 pm for those of us who like to attend the first showing but actually have to get up early the next day.

But the other side of the coin is that the whole point of midnight showings is for the rabid fans to get in early to give a little breathing room for the mainstream audience in prime time. Primetime shows kind of defeat that purpose, besides taking away from the fun of a huge opening day at the box office.
