Re: The official Franchise Ranker (LOTR, Rambo!)
Well that will be the one to beat, for sure. Ok, new round, lets go Cameron franchises. Terminator, and Alien.
The Terminator- 9.5 Terminator 2: Judgement Day- 10 Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines- 8.5
Average- 9.33
Alien- 9.5 Aliens- 10 Alien 3- 6.5 Alien Resurrection- 7
Average- 8.25
* Note, no Alien Vs. Predator films as it really is a completely different franchise, with a no connection at all to the Alien films.

Yay, awesome franchise pairing.
The Terminator- 8.5 Terminator 2: Judgement Day- 9.5 Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines- 7.5
Average- 8.5
Alien- 10 Aliens (director's cut)- 10 Alien 3 ("producer's cut")- 7.5 Alien Resurrection- 7
Average- 8.6
The Alien franchise is definitely my soft spot, and I only specify the versions because in the case of Alien 3 it does have a big impact on the grade and I haven't seen the regular version of Aliens in forever. I only ever watch the director's cut.

Re: The official Franchise Ranker (Alien, Terminator!
I agree definitely with that. Alien 3 I remember giving a 5, and the producers cut an 8, thats why I settled on 6.5

So how will you average Alien3 then? My grade is for the theatrical release.

I still disagree (angrily) with the decision to kill off the other survivors from Aliens like they did in Alien 3, but I do always wonder what exactly the movie would have been had Fincher just been allowed to do what he wanted, and with some more money because those FX shots of the alien running around are...well, there's really nothing nice to say about them!

After seeing the new beginning, ending, and extra 40 minutes cut out put back, I can't really see Alien 3 any other way now, so thats why I went with it. Go with what you feel more comfortable, or like better.

Agreed, I think its funny how cutting edge they tried to be with the new CGI, and you can tell that some people knew how to do it at the time, Speilberg, Lucas, Cameron, and those that did not, FOX. its probably the most dated of the films as a result. Though the puppetry scenes in there, especially the one later on is fantastic.

I was just curious how you'll average it fairly, since people are basically grading 2 different films.

Well I say go with whatever film you want, they are still the same movie, after watching the assembly cut I really don't consider any other cut to be Alien 3. Its random when I see it on TV now and I see scenes and realize that like 20 minutes was in between them in the assembly version.

Re: The official Franchise Ranker (Commenced)
I see some people ar putting in retroactive rankings for series they missed in the thread. I'm not sure if you're counting the late entries, but I'll add my rankings anyways for the first match-up which I missed, for posterity, and since they are two of my fave franchises...
The Godfather - 10 The Godfather Part II - 10 The Godfather Part III - 9
Average - 9.66
Back to the Future - 10 Back to the Future Part II - 9 Back to the Future Part III - 9
Average - 9.33
