Okay I had to get this off my chest, but I don't like indies. Who else here dosn't like them?

im not a big fan of Indie movies

but i'm just not a fan of them.

Well... there are some major fantastic Indies out there. I can't say I'm a fan of all of them (who is?) so I don't really know. *shrugs*

Impact is starting to sound like imtim.

Personally, I'd like to think that I am accepting to all forms of cinematic expression. I find it refreshing to try to strike a balance between the "popcorn blockbusters", the oscar-baiting epics and the small independants. Quite often you'll find that the indies have greater depth of character and are made with limited funds in mind and therefore the story comes first. As opposed to the big studio system, where budgets are huge and the onus seems to be on dominant trends and appealing to the wallets of certain demographics. Of course there are exceptions to this, big-budget studio films that can have well-drawn characters and a brilliant screenplay or indies that can be complete crap, but you get the point. Independants are just hard to seek out, especially when you don't live near a theatre that shows them. If I were to take a look at my all time top 10 movies, not a single one of them is an indie film. Maybe for me then, it is those bigger Hollywood movies that have a certain aura and magic that an indie film just can't capture.

But then, it is very late...

I have no problem with them, although I do find some indies to be vastly overrated like the melodramatic Pieces Of April. I do like lots of them though. There are many great indies out there that I love and enjoy very much. I like all movies, and I'm very open minded when it comes to giving any film a chance, so I must say that I do not hate indies at all. In fact, some of my favorite films of all time happen to be independent films. \:D/

I love independent movies. Eternal Sunshine, Before Sunset, Million Dollar Baby, Garden State, Sideways and The Motorcycle Diaries are all in my top 10 of 2004.

I love a lot of indies, but I admit that some of them try too freaking hard to be "quirky" or "different" at times.

Saying "I don't like indies" is kind of like saying "I don't like originality" or "I don't like creativity".

Most of the big blockbusters you love so much steal their plot points from indies, or just flatout remake them.

I like a good blockbuster as much as the next guy, but saying that you don't like indies is just being ignorant and completely shutting yourself off from probably the most important kind of filmmaking out there. Spielberg, Lucas... some of the biggest names in filmmaking got their starts making great indies.

Mmm hmm alot of movies you probably wouldnt expect to be indie actually are. People have different opinions on what makes a movie indie, it varies in opinion.

I love indies, normally all of my top 10 is basically indies. Last year I had ... Before Sunset, We Don't Live Here Anymore, The Dreamers, Sideways and a few more.

its really weird to say that someone doesn't like indies. While it makes sense to not like an entire genre, indies aren't really a genre. they can encompass all sorts of different type of movies so .. umm .. i just dont get this.

I didn't like the notion of indies in college. I felt I needed a bigger canvas to tell my stories and everyone else didn't.

Once I saw Pulp Fiction, I realized you can tell some wild and incredible stories through the independent world of cinema.

I'm pro studio. And WB owns New Line and Fine Line, Disney owns Miramax, all the studios have indie labels within, so it's all one big system anyway.

I have mixed feelings on Indies, some are very good and most are just overrated. I just have one question here...how can movies like Million Dollar Baby, Hotel Rwanada, Fargo, Se7en and Platoon be indies they had a decent budget and were relaesed by big studies like Warner Bros., MGM, United Artists or New Line.

yep...it's a pretty weird statement indeed. "indies" really have nothing that connect them to each other, except no big studio funding. so it's just like Sony or Miramax or whatever other studio films...some might suck, some wont. so yeah, l like indies...or rather, some movies l like are independant. or something like that.

also, l think some people are mistaking "limited release" with "indie." stuff like Hotel Rwanda wouldn't really be considered indie, cuz they have pretty big production companies (Lions Gate Films, United Artists. ) or maybe l'm the one misinterpreting what is meant by "indie"
