Randy "The Ram" Robinson To Appear At Wrestlemania XXV
If Eddie Murphy can lose his Oscar because of Norbit, will Mickey Rourke wrestling on Wrestlemania XXV have any effect on his Oscar chances?

I don't really think he was gonna win anyway.

The good news is that Wrestlemania isn't until April.
But this is either method acting or madness, probably a bit of both. I think Penn's shout-out to Benicio Del Toro at the SAG Awards probably won over enough voters for an Oscar win.

I think I need to mention that del Toro's chances were royally screwed up.
Had the film been handled well, I'm sure he'd have been nominated.

How would voters choose between his performance in Guerrilla and The Argentine?

They should have either condensed this into one. Or released just one of them in December.

I won't deny that I'm not a fan of wrestling, but Rourke is an actor portraying a wrestler, NOT a wrestler himself like Chris Jericho, so in that sense, it's nothing more than sensationalism and very predictable that Vince McMahon and his writers will make absolute certain to have Rourke win the match to make him look good, but I suppose this really isn't any different than having Floyd Mayweather going up against a 450 LB man named The Big Show at last years WM and look what happened to Mayweather: He was launched LITERALLY folks 10 feet in the air out of the ring onto the aisle floor and hurt pretty bad and never heard from him since except from his publicist.. Then again, Vince McMahon was said to have not liked the movie at all and says it's completely hokey, so Vince might swerve it to where he loses and humbles him.. People might mock these guys and how scripoted it is, but you have to be in damn good shape to do what these guys do and often at times, they do slip up and get hurt.. I hope Rourke understands this..

Oh god BKB, will you ever realize wrestling is fake?

Rourke did his own spots in The Wrestler, plus he spent years boxing, so he should have no problem at all. And Chris Jericho is an expert at making his opponents look good.
I hope Jericho gets the belt before Wrestlemania, and then Rourke gets an Oscar, and they do a Oscar for a belt match.

I don't know why it would have hurt its chances even if it had been before the Oscars.

No shit dumbass.. I said it was SCRIPTED.. Read the fucking post again before opening your big mouth.. However, you do have to be in exceptional shape to do what these guys do and alot of times, they do mess up and get hurt.. If you think otherwise, your an idiot, but then again, I think that anyway..

change of mind it seems
Quote:
HOUSTON – A spokeswoman for actor Mickey Rourke says he won't be taking his role as a professional wrestler into a real-life ring after all.
Paula Woods told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that Rourke will not wrestle WWE superstar Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25 in April at Houston's Reliant Stadium.
Woods wrote in an e-mail that the Oscar-nominated actor "will not be participating in Wrestlemania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career."
Rourke portrays professional wrestler Randy the Ram in the acclaimed movie "The Wrestler." He made a surprise announcement about the wrestling event Sunday night on the red carpet before the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.
Rourke had said he was going to toss Jericho "around the ring like tossed salad."
Good call I'd say

I hope this still happens, where Rourke "changes his mind" after all the Oscar votes are turned in.

I'm sure it will. This would never have went this far (Jericho's appearance on Larry King) if the deal wasn't finalized.

It'll be cool if Mickey Rourke is in the middle of delivering his Oscar acceptance speech when all of a sudden Chris Jericho shows up and attacks him from behind.

Vince McMahon Claims Mickey Rourke Will Be At WrestleMania Written by: Ryan Clark - January 29th, 2009
Vince McMahon himself has issued an official response regarding today's news of Mickey Rourke pulling out of a proposed match with Chris Jericho at WrestleMania XXV. The WWE Chairman issued the following statement to http://www.EOnline.com: "I am pleased that Mickey Rourke will be in attendance at WrestleMania to support the WWE Superstars who support him and the film in which he stars, The Wrestler."
Of course, "in attendance" could mean a number of things. I'd really like to see him in the match, though.

One day someone will make an interesting biopic of Mickey Rourke.

And face it: Chris Jericho is 100% right.. Rourke is an actor portraying a wrestler, but not a wrestler at all and it is a far different world than what he realizes.. Jericho would get him on the mat, put his finishing move on him in putting him in the Boston Crab or whatever his trademark finishing movie is and Rourke would tap out.. It's that simple..

The people who write at TMZ do know that (for the most part - it's a stunt show basically and people get hurt) Wrestling is scripted and choreographed, right? So, he's essentially doing what he does for a living, just in front of an arena full of people.
