Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
I'm dying to watch this but if Bond can't do it why should Star Trek be able to especially when people still think of the Trek franchise as the nerdy sci fi series.

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
These are the openings adjusted for the Star Trek films
1- 34 million 2- 34 million 3- 35 million 4- 32 million 5- 31 million 6- 30.6 million 7- 39 million (First Next Generation Movie) 8- 49 million 9- 33 million 10- 22 million
If you look though, the change in casts or style of movies helped significantly. If you did the intro film of both series. The next reboot or series of films increased about 13%. And to add to that comparison. Star Trek Generations came out 15 years after the original, and the new movie will come out 15 years after Generations. If the new increased the same way, that could mean the new film would be at about 44 million opening weekend. But add in the extra wait, and perhaps a wider audience we could be looking in the 40-60 million range for opening weekend.

One thing for sure, though: there is a lot of underestimation going on in this thread too.

Sorry bro. I thought this would be largely ignored actually, but you've created a club people really feel they need to not join!
Honestly, it's 100% impossible for this to do 100. Only First Contact cracked 50 adjusted OW. Nemesis, the most recent, is by far the weakest opening. Even the best reboot imaginable does not point north of 40.

Not that I'm laughing in disagreeing with this, I just find it funny to go from 100 Million in 3 days to 30 Million max.. That would be the headline news of the summer..

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club
I'm the biggest Trek fan around these parts, and while I wish for it, I'll be content for half that. I'd be happy actually with what Twilight got. Cause of a piece of drek like that can get almost 70 mil, Trek should have no problems, even after Nemesis and Enterprise's cancellation.

mark66 wrote: I never started a club before, but after watching the STAR TREK trailer I fully believe this one will open to $100m (it better since it cost $150m to produce). Who's with me?
IN: 1) mark66 (Nov. 15th)
OUT: 1) Mr. Green (no way) 2) be.redy (It's not getting half of that for the OW. Maybe not even a quarter.) 3) Dr. Lecter (no way) 4) The Dark Knight (Not even remotely) 5) Levy (This is impossible) 6) SolC9 (They're going to have to market the hell out of it just to get it to 50M) 7) thompsoncory (Absolutely not) 8) Rev (80m/180m) 9) Riggs (80m is the max) 10) T-Bag (no way) 11) O (its not happening) 12) Rorschach (STOP. SMOKING. DOPE.) 13) the ultimate biu ($50 OW is far more realistic) 14) Zingaling (lol) 15) MadGez (No way. Its also got a terrible release date) 16) Thegun (I think 70 million is the max or this, but I think 40-55 seems much more likely right now) 17) dolemit3 (no way) 18) The Dark Shape (Not even close) 19) Obama won!!! (ha) 20) almost famous (is that a joke?) 21) Royd (Wolverine will affect Star Trek the same way Iron Man did with Speed Racer) 22) The Scottie (cuckoo's clock) 23) jmovies (no way) 24) LadiesMan 217 (Remove one of the 0's and I will be in) 25) BJ (Your insane) 26) BK (Impossible) 27) Corpse (I'm thinking something around 25/65) 28) Shack (Trek is a pretty big taboo from my experience. A lot of people consider it a synonom for nerd) 29) shawman (I think it will flop) 30) misutaa (less than 30 million opening with a finish around 70 million) 31) nazgul9 (you should have waited for the sequel and then make this club) 32) trixster (Maybe if Chris Pine ODs on sleeping pills sometime in the next few months. Even then....) 33) Zuule (I put it at 35 million opening and 68 Million final) 34) LadiesMan217 (it will crack 45 million and end with $135 million) 35) excel (i see some nice legs for this one, but opening? 30's, maybe 40.) 36) Raffiki (I can see it even go as high as $60-65 million if they play their cards right.) 37) munkyfromlondon ($30 mil max.) 38) nghtvsn (if Bond can't do it why should Star Trek be able to) 39) Proud Ryu (Even the best reboot imaginable does not point north of 40) 40) DIB2 (65m Max) 41) FILMO (Make something like 46) 42) critch (while I wish for it, I'll be content for half that) Okay guys, I just came back from a convention and I've finally seen those 26 minutes everyone else has seen two months ago... After watching those four highly entertaining scenes I am more convinced than ever that STAR TREK will deliver and the hype will be there come May to deliver a $100m opening weekend... BTW, I have also seen 24 minutes of WATCHMEN...

Bond was shit so it could never have done well unless they redid it. I'm assuming you're talking about Quantum. I actually now want this, after seeing the trailer, to do well as it is much less nerdy or lame or whatever than I was led to believe before. But 100m OW is still a stretch. How's Watchmen??

I saw the opening 10 minutes, 10 minutes with Dr. Manhattan on Mars (with flashbacks) and 4 minutes of the prison rescue of Rorschach. What I liked the most was how Snyder uses music... BTW, I never read the graphic novel...

It wasn't that kind of convention. It's a convention for the exhibition industry similiar to ShoWest in Las Vegas...
