I really like the Harold and Kumar movies. The first one was especially funny because, I mean, it takes place in Jersey. I watched it right before my failed move out there, too.

I thought the first was awful, but the second one was surprisingly excellent.

Any movie that manages to make Bush a cool character has done a killer job in my book.

Lloyd Richards: What makes you think either Miller or Sherwood would stand for the nonsense I take from you? You'd better stick to Beaumont and Fletcher! They've been dead for three hundred years!

Margo Channing: ALL playwrights should be dead for three hundred years!

What did you make of the Birdie character? Isn't she a sweetheart?

Well, if I remember correctly, she does say that Margo replaced her, right? So, we see the pattern. I thought she was great, but I don't know about sweetheart. No one really was. There were just better and worse characters/histories and what made her the best of them was that her past seemed the worst. Like she was the one who truly lost out.

haha, that's awesome. It seems to sort of not be something that you would like...

Its because I have no sense of humor, isn't it? :tears:

Well, I liked them both, but for different reasons. The second one kind of made fun of national politics, so it spoke to more people. I thought the beginning part was especially funny. It dragged a bit after they leave Florida, but then picked up again. I enjoyed it. The first one relied much more heavily on "in jokes" about Jersey and since I am familiar with all of them, I laughed buckets.

Trouble in Paradise? Herr Lubitsch?

Trouble in Paradise is one of the smartest, wittiest, frothiest comedies ever to come from Hollywood. A perfect specimen of pre-code moviemaking, and Lubitsch at the peak of his sophisticated powers.

So, yeah, I like it quite a bit!

Did you...watch it?

OMG! It was great! I'm so glad I waited til now to see it as its impact on me now is probably greater than it would have been 2 3, 5 or 10 years ago. And I saw it with my Mom!

This is probably the best ensemble ever? Well, not quite, Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios is just as good an ensemble and I'm sure Robert Altman would have a thing or two to say about my assessment. Def. one of Almodóvar's best.

The way Pedro integrates All About Eve into the story is brilliant! There were flashes of Mildred Pierce and Chinatown in Volver and he brilliantly uses the end of Duel in the Sun in Matador, but this was something else.

Almodóvar is the best director working today.

I don't know that I would call it fun but I liked it. Giulietta Masina's face reflects a bittersweet tone that impregnates the whole affair.

Oh, I was totally being facetious. The end of La Strada left me depressed for days!

Like me calling Birdie from All About Eve a sweetheart on the last page.

But what a great movie that was! I noticed that it was shot with no direct sound like Bycicle Thieves. Was this a sort of thing that was prevalent in Italian cinema at the time?
