 Re: Tropic Thunder
Not that funny and actually I am do not find a lot of the comedies like Superbad, Knocked Up to be so called "all time great" comedies.
However the scenes with Tom Cruise was funny however the film gets way to crazy with no real point. I like random stupidness that is funny, but its a line you must walk carefully. If it goes to far it makes the film very stupid and absurd.
Ben Stiller and Jack Black were not great. Crusise FDJ were funny...

Exactly what I was thinking. The movie is a comedic classic. The first 10 minutes are A+ worthy. Just perfect. The rest of the movie is fantastic as well. I can't watch this movie enough, doesn't get old. Very close to an A. A-

Oh, and that "I'm a lead farmer, mother fucker" is not a funny line at all. i agree with the lead farmer thing. i still dont quite get the funny or the badass part about that line.

It's like little kids taking a clock apart to see how it works, and no longer being able to tell the time. Sometimes a line can be extracted from a comedy and savored as an isolated gem of humor, but many times it must be viewed within the flow of a comedy screenplay. Does no one remember when they first heard this line shouted by Robert Downey Jr. this summer in a full house theatre with the audience laughing?

 Re: Tropic Thunder
The fake trailers at the start were funnier than the movie. The main problem here was too many characters being over the top and too many long scenes of people trying to out yell and out overact each other, it needed a lot more balance. It was like trying to watch a Seinfeld episode in which everyone was trying to be Kramer.
I'd give it a C-.

Rorschach wrote: Lead farmer is indeed a line that works only within the context of the film. And in the film, its amazing. I 2nd. I am still laughing at the line "observe god's mistake." Out of context it is nothing; in context it is a comedy goldmine. This movie is awesome - funniest movie of the year for me.

The Len Grossman role should have been cut down to a 30 second cameo.

 Re: Tropic Thunder
The first 15 or so minutes are easily the strongest in this bad movie. Stay away from the rest.

Tropic Thunder
Pretty good flick. Many moments of comedy and action (yet I only laughed twice), and Robert Downey Jr. showing for the first time in his career that he can act as someone besides himself. His single greatest performance. Tom Cruise was also very good, as was Danny McBride and the fake trailers at the start. The soldiers were talking [basic] Chinese, which was nice as I could understand what they said! Good fun, but nothing more, and I can't imagine wanting to watch it ever again.

 Re: Tropic Thunder
Rewatched it when it was on tv the other day. It's a gem because of Cruise and RDJ's performances and there's just a lot of good humor throughout as well. Towards the end it gets a bit exhaustive, but the good moments make it worth revisiting this.
