Wait, it made you bawl or it made you curl up into a baby-sized ball?

A very gripping and moving movie. Definitely Smith's best film to date surpassing The Pursuit of Happyness. Rosario Dawson shined as Emily Posa. You could definitely feel all the trouble she was going through in the film. The chemistry between her and Smith's character Ben Thomas worked and was very well done. The other people Ben helps out in the film also do remarkable in their roles especially Woody Harrelson who plays Ezra Turner. The last few scenes of the film make this film even more wonderful. It has you on the edge of your seat. If you're a huge tearjerker, you will cry your eyes out. Even if you aren't one, you are going to shed atleast one tear. This film has a great message and hoefully it has a leggy run at the box office. The critics got this all wrong.

But I'm a sucker for "tearjerkers" and this certainly didn't make me cry. In fact, I thought the ending was actually kind of funny because it was so over-the-top and maudlin.

You're the only person I know who didn't cry.

Maybe you hate men?

Suicide by jellyfish? Really?

The only thing I liked about the ending was that Rosario Dawson's character got a heart. She was the only person/character in the movie I cared about.

:funny:

In all seriousness though, I tried to find some good in the film. I failed. A.O. Scott hates me now.

This part is almost incomprehensible.

Since when did tearjerker become synonymous with 'person who cries'? I could've sworn it meant a sad movie.

Is that someone who jerks off with their tears?

Didn't come remotely close to crying, there, Chip.

Mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand, it's so slow that until an hour and 45 minutes in, I kept thinking, "please end, please end, please end." And, the entire "secret" of the film could be figured out within the first 15 minutes of the film, so...lame. Aaaaand, the "death" scene is incredibly corny.

I did like seeing how Will Smith ended up helping those seven people, so basically, the last 15 minutes.

But otherwise, pretty blah.

Well obviously you didn't. You think you're a manly man because you like 300 and Death Race and Lil' Wayne

I thought that was somehow a nice touch. It seemed to signify his life.

The parts where he is judging the other characters didn't quite work for me. We all have a right to anger, although when right. Take anger away and I think you're unintentionally taking a lot away from the world. Not 'quick to anger' I suppose is in the grey area for me.

Also being good when you think no one is watching (but someone is). Should we always be expected to live based on social expectations? I think it's much better to accept that people can have parts of them the public might never understand that they have every right to. Yet, I wonder if that's what the movie somehow meant.

It keeps asking what's good, and it could be said to give answers, but then it doesn't really. With that ending the point of the movie kind of silently drifts into some murky place.

A lot to think about at least.

8.1/10

Conflicted one though.

How random was the introduction to the jellyfish? That seemed so tacked on.

There were good parts and terrible parts... it isn't as bad as critics make it out to be though. It has heart and I think I understand what they were getting at with the whole reveal, but I think it could have been worked on a bit more. Unfortunately I think Will Smith was kinda bad in this film.... he was not likable at all.. Dawson was probably the best part.

around a C+ because it worked for the most part, but it wasn't great by any means....

I did see some people crying, though it really did not move me to tears (and I am not that hard to tear up)

I thought it was a nice surprise. I like random but insightful ways of looking at things.

I did like Smith in the movie. I probably related to his conflicted nature. :P

I never, never, NEVER cry in the theater, but 7 Pounds had me sobbing like a baby. Maybe seeing this on Christmas had something to do with it, but I was so swept up in the relationship between Smith's and Dawnson's characters that I couldn't help it. This is Will Smith's finest acting performance bar none. This isn't the big Wllie that we are accustomed to but a far more depressed, emotional figure you could relate to if you were to go through the tragic accident that he caused.

In short, I loved this movie.

I really loved this movie. A sad, touching ending and I thought the "suicide by jellyfish" was fantastic. It hasn't held up as well as I'd like it to but my grade remains the same.
