I never did, would be pretty laughable to do so considering he is one of the few who actually deserve to be in it. But to pin it down on a couple of opinions about a couple films...eh? I'm pretty sure I can come up with several unsnobby thoughts for most memmbers here. Black Christmas was just an instance that can't be argued for any bit more than the dislking of Blow-Up.

 Re: The KJ snob/elitist club
It's not about your opinion on a single film, it's about the entire attitude that comes from giving Blow-up a D+. It's not a snobbish or elitist attitude. Whatever it may be, it's not that.
And besides, you pride yourself on being as unsnobby as possible. Why the desire to join? Is it just the urge to be a part of a secret club?

Heh, as I said, I have been called a film elitist far too many times now in real life, so I wanna know how it is being surrounded by real ones : ) Thing is, I am willing to see pretty much any film in existance and judge it. If I had endless time, I actually would do just that.

You could have far more time if you would stop watching every inane crap-movie like those disgracefully foolish motion picture abominations by coprophile directors such as Paul WS Anderson.

Broke down. This thread is addictive... Current top ten list for the calendar year 2008:Not gonna happen. Instead, I will provide more extensive information about my favorites. Your top five favorite directors:Varies according to my mood, and in no particular order: Federico Fellini Pedro Almodovar Woody Allen Ousmane Sembene Errol Morris Five of your favorite movies of all time:I'll provide ten from my fave hundred in order to make up for the general lack of enthusiasm 2008 has managed to produced in such theatre-goers as my picky self. Again, in no particular order and stressing not just quality but also watchability. These are favorites, not just 'bests': Black Cat, White Cat The Conversation The Sweet Hereafter La Dolce Vita Last of the Mohicans Bad Education Anatomy of a Murder Open Doors The Double Life of Veronique Black Orpheus Fire Away...

I've seen that movie at least a dozen times and it hasn't worn off on me. It's my favorite of his. What did you think of "Blue Gypsy" from All the Invisible Children? And I guess this is the place to ask. What did you guys think of La Haine ('95)? I started watching it but the dvd was broken or something. I really liked it so far but can't find another copy here.

Other ones I've seen have been Underground and Time of the Gypsies. Liked Time a lot, although it is much heavier than BCWC. Barely got through Underground, which felt like a brick wall.

Why, Price, why? Is it because the murder never happened? Nebs wrote: Top 10 for The Last of the Mohicans? Nice seeing that. Ten of my top hundred, not the top ten. That would be too hard, I like too many good movies. Its certainly up there though. What an ass I am. Clearly haven't been sleeping at all. Forgot to make a single reference to Jim Jarmusch.

Kusturica must have a thing about overhearing old American classics and quoting them completely out of context. ...this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

hmmm, you don't think these movies are automatically better or more intelligent do you? Just say that people are allowed to see 10,000 BC and not think it's horrible, and we are ok.

dolcevita wrote: DP07 wrote: hmmm, you don't think these movies are automatically better or more intelligent do you? In fact, yes. Yes I do. hmmm, why then? Most people wouldn't like them as much, and while you could argue about what would make it objective, I would say that it is largely taste. There are issues that you might argue to make a film better, but I don't see why visuals or the elements found in major hits would have to be worse. Everyone will have a bias based on what they have been exposed to or based on their social situation. Here's the thing: are you saying there is truth, and if so, how do you claim that truth to be 'automatic'? I mean, I have not seen many of them, and I might not enjoy that many other films (I've seen 'classics'), but I might respect them. IDK. The primary purpose of a movie could be to entertain. It could be other things. But I'm willing to bet that if there is something truthful that it says it could be typed up on a message board. That might not display it as well, but my point is that movies are not primarily to create truth, but to be an experience and then also perhaps have something truthful in them. Well, I was talking about beauty having truth, and I'm certain of that. But that's a different sort. I'm referring here to the automatic sort that could be typed up. Quote: Quote: Just say that people are allowed to see 10,000 BC and not think it's horrible, and we are ok. Hell no. I couldn't even 'see' the bus station posters for that peice of tripe without my eyes hurting and my mind reeling. lol, it was meant to be an entertaining visual effects film, and it accomplished that...I didn't think it was horrible, and WOM was a bit below average. It had nice special effects. Obviously other movies have better special effects and use them better.

 Re: The KJ snob/elitist club
I'll say though, that I know you've called yourself condescending before, but I really don't think you are. You tend to focus on the films or the art you love while arguing for them, and I don't remember you ever directing it towards the people who have different tastes. So yeah...I just think that even if 10,000 BC is lacking in areas, there remains the potential for movies of its kind to be great.
Heh, I just saw DMC again and was surprised at how great of a popcorn movie it can be.

Um...you know I love The Blood Diamond and I'm sure 300 other movies you would hate. So, no, I'm pretty sure it's not. Just because Excel and who knows who else went to war over the movie... I mean, I know you don't care what audiences think, but the film managed to expand on its mythology and add many interesting new elements. The story and interplay between the characters was fun. The action scenes are among the more entertaining from 2006. It might not be your type of movie, but I think it did everything it intended to do quite well.
